St. John Paul II Principal's Bulletin for the Week of August 11, 2019

Sweet Treat Social: Please join us on Sunday, August 11, noon to 2:00 p.m. This is an opportunity to drop off school supplies, meet teachers and see classrooms. If you have completed forms, you can also drop those off in the school office. As you leave, stop by the cafeteria for a treat!

Welcome to the new school year! Our first day of school is Thursday, August 15. On this day and the following day, Friday, August 16, we will be on the early dismissal schedule with dismissal at 12:00 noon. There will be no lunch on either of these days. Also, there will be no After School Program on either August 15 or 16. The regular lunch program and ASP begin on Monday, August 19. For those of you who are returning to JP2, our parking lot drop-off and pick-up procedures are the same as last year. For those of you who are new, please take a few minutes to review the parking lot procedures. You can access them through the HCA website at Drop-off & Pick-up at JP2.

August 15 is also the Feast of the Assumption and we will end the first day of school with Mass at 11:00 in the school chapel. Parents are welcome to join us for Mass.

Parents: Please stop by after you drop off your children on August 15 and join us for coffee, sweets and fruit at the annual Boo Hoo Breakfast. The Boo Hoo Breakfast is scheduled from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in the JP2 cafeteria. Both the Sweet Treat Social and the Boo Hoo Breakfast are sponsored by the Holy Cross Parents Association (HCPA). Special thanks go to Colleen Lynch who organized the treats at the Sweet Treat Social and to Mary Stage and Victoria McNamee who are organizing the Boo Hoo Breakfast.

Mark your calendars for Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, August 21. We will begin with a short meeting in the cafeteria at 6:30 p.m. Following the opening meeting, you will have the opportunity to meet with your children's teachers in their classrooms.

Parent Volunteers: Please consider assisting with lunch and morning parking lot duty throughout the year. To volunteer to help with the parking lot duty go to Parking Lot Volunteers. Cafeteria volunteers sign-up at Cafeteria Volunteers.

This year we are also looking for parent volunteers to work with homeroom teachers in organizing three student parties: Halloween (October 31, 2:00 to 2:45), Christmas (December 20, 11:00 to 11:45) and Valentine's Day (February 13, 2:00 to 2:45). Sign-up sheets will be available in each classroom on the Wednesday evening of Back-to-School Night. Please consider signing up to help with these parties! HCA will provide the snacks for these parties, but parents are needed to plan and assist with party activities. In accordance with Archdiocesan policy, volunteers must have completed "Protecting God's Children."

September lunch orders should be placed by August 23. Both the menu for each day and sign-up are on the A2Z website: Lunch Orders.

An informational night regarding MOST, Missouri's 529 Education Plan will be held at CBC High School on Thursday, August 22. This a way to save money on K-12 tuition by using 529 funds. Please see the attached flyer for additional information: Missouri 529 Meeting.

The students and faculty of JP2 will be celebrating Mass together with Fr. Chris on Thursday mornings of each week. Each grade takes a turn preparing the liturgy, doing readings, bringing up the offertory gifts and leading the singing. Please know that you are always welcome to join us for Mass.

Reminder: Please make sure that you have completed and returned all forms from the Back-to-School packet. Forms can be returned to the school office during regular hours or during the Sweet Treat Social.

Thanks for a great start to the new school year and thank you making me feel so welcome at JP2. Dr. D.
