Mrs. Koberlein's Weekly Message-March 13, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Thursday, March 12, 2020

Dear HCA-OLP Families,

I hope you are all able to spend some quality time with your families during this spring break, whether you are working, taking time off, traveling, or staying home. I offer prayers for your family to have a fun and healthy spring break.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if there is any way I may be of help!

In God’s Peace,

Mrs. Katie Koberlein

Principal, Our Lady of Providence Campus

End of Third Quarter

The third quarter will end on Friday, March 27. Starting today, Friday, March 13, the online gradebook will be closed for parent viewing to allow teachers to begin preparing report cards in our online system. Report cards will be available for online viewing Friday, April 3 at 3:30 p.m.

April Lunch Orders

Ordering is now open for April school lunches. April lunch orders must be placed by Monday, March 23. That’s the Monday when we return from Spring Break. After you order, please remember to bring your payment to the school office. Order now so you don’t forget!

Change for Change Collection

During Lent, STUCO is sponsoring a Change for Change campaign. Students are encouraged to collect change throughout the Lenten season. Money collected will be donated to the children of Melissa's Hope Orphanage in Haiti and to help support the missionary work of the Sisters of Notre Dame. Brown paper bags to collect the donated change have been sent home with each child. Please return them to school by April 6. For more information on Melissa's Hope, please go to melissashope.org There are pictures and videos of the children and families in Haiti supported by the orphanage.

Aftercare on Fish Fry Days

If your children go to aftercare on Fridays during Lent, you should come to the front glass doors by the school office to pick them up. Students will be in the art room instead of the cafeteria because of the fish fry. (After you pick up your students, I highly recommend heading downstairs to the fish fry. Take-out orders are also available.)

Cold and Flu, Coronavirus Precautions

Now that a case of coronavirus has been identified in St. Louis County, we are taking more precautions at school. According to the CDC, the best ways to prevent the spread of illness are to clean frequently touched surfaces, practice good handwashing, and stay home when you are sick. Here is a link to information for families from the CDC.

Please remind your children of the importance of good hand washing, and remember to keep your children home if they are having symptoms of illness, especially fevers or vomiting. Students need to be fever free without fever-reducing medication for at least 24 hours before returning to school. Thank you for helping keep our students healthy!

Here at school, we are using sanitizing wipes to clean the classrooms more frequently. We are also providing more opportunities for students to wash their hands and/or use hand sanitizer throughout the school day. Teachers are reminding students to wash their hands well, cover their coughs and sneezes, and refrain from touching their faces.

Today we are sending books and supplies home with students. This is in case the situation would change during spring break and the CDC or health department would begin to recommend school closings. We are prepared to implement a distance learning plan so we could maintain student learning if that would become necessary, although we don’t anticipate that to be the case.

Fish Fries

The OLP Men’s Club will be having a fish fry every Friday during Lent except for Good Friday. I hope you and your family will be able to come enjoy a delicious meal and support the Men’s Club. This is the Men’s Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and they like to use the money they earn to support different needs in the OLP community, including supporting the school. I bet everyone in your family can find something on the menu that they will like.

Registration for 2020-21 School Year

Thank you to the families who have registered for school next year. We are so glad you are coming back next year!

If you have not yet re-enrolled for next year, please follow these directions. Registration for the upcoming school year is online only. To begin the re-enrollment process please visit our website at https://www.holycross-stl.org/returning-student-registration.html and follow the FACTS Family Portal Instructions. All re-enrolling students must have a re-enrollment packet completed online and submitted to be considered enrolled for the 2020-21 school year. Once you click submit in the system, it will prompt you to pay the $200/Family registration fee and then prompt you to set up your online tuition settings. Once you have completed all of these steps you will receive a confirmation email from FACTS (RenWeb). If you have questions pertaining to FACTS or general enrollment, please contact:

Preschool FACTS Questions: Angie Langhauser - Director of Early Childhood Ed.

K-8th Grade FACTS Questions: Karen Folk - Principal of the SMA Campus

Prevent and Protect

The Archdiocese of St. Louis has developed a new system for safe environment compliance called Prevent and Protect STL. All volunteers in the Archdiocese are required to register in the new system before December 31, 2020. This includes new volunteers and those who are currently in service. For those who have already attended a Protecting God’s Children workshop, your previous training date will transfer to this new system. In addition to attending a live Protecting God’s Children workshop, all clergy, volunteers, and employees will register for an updated background screening, view two new online training modules on abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct. Please go to www.preventandprotectstl.org to register. To help you through this process, here is a document with helpful Instructions for Registering as an HCA Volunteer.
