Mrs. Folk's Weekly Message-March 13, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Thursday, March 12, 2020

Dear Holy Cross Academy Families,

The anticipation is over and Spring Break has finally arrived! Everyone is excited to have a little time off. I hope that families and staff get some rest, enjoy fun activities and if you are traveling, safe travels.

The 5th grade class and Kindergarten both went on field trips to the Sheldon Concert hall this week. Thanks to Mrs. Krobath for all of her hard work in planning our Music Field trips. 2nd grade led us in Stations of the Cross on Tuesday. Also on Tuesday 2nd/4th grade went to confessions with Father Grosch. Friday, Kindergarten led us in Mass for the first time. They did a great job in preparing.

Thank you to all of the parents who attended the HCPA meeting on Wednesday night.

During Lent, we are having a number of activities planned at SMA including Stations of the Cross weekly led by a different grade, Lenten series and lessons the teachers are using for their class, adoration and benediction, Change to Change alms giving, Sacrament of Reconciliation for 2nd-5th graders, and a campus retreat day on Holy Thursday. Please continue to pray for each other as we all are going through the Lenten season together.

After spring break the children can begin wearing their warm weather uniform. Just a friendly reminder that we go out to recess each day even if it is a little chilly.

March 27th is a noon dismissal and if you need ASP you will need to pre register. Forms are available on a2zware newsfeed. Finally if you haven’t already pre ordered your April lunches please take a moment to do that before the deadline

We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You. Because by Your Holy Cross

You have redeemed the world

God Bless!

Mrs. Karen Folk

Cold and Flu, Coronavirus Precautions

The flu at OLP seems to be winding down, the coronavirus in the news has us all on high alert to prevent the spread of illness. According to the CDC, the best ways to prevent the spread of illness are to clean frequently touched surfaces, practice good hand washing, and stay home when you are sick. We are using sanitizing wipes to clean the classrooms and are encouraging children to wash their hands well throughout the school day. Please remind your children of the importance of good hand washing, and remember to keep your children home if they are having symptoms of illness, especially fevers or vomiting. Students need to be fever free without fever-reducing medication for at least 24 hours before returning to school. Thank you for helping keep our students healthy!

Totus Tuus

Don’t miss out on Totus Tuus the uniquely Catholic archdiocesan and parish youth camp this summer! Fully trained youth missionaries (college students and seminarians) bring the message in a fun and exciting format. FUNDRAISER FOR HCA ART PROGRAM

HCA is partnering with the Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues to raise money for our Art program. It's all about a viewing party at the Enterprise Center. Tickets are $10 and we get $5 for each ticket we sell. All we have to do is promote the ticket link. Everything else is automatic and they'll cut us a check.

All oconsession are open. The Zamboni cleans the ice between periods and the "cheerleaders" toss out t-shirts. It's just like a real game except the Blues are out of town. The game is on the Jumbotron.

Change for Change

Every year HCA during Lent participates in the collection Change for Change. Your child’s bag is in their Friday folder. Every child in the Academy in the elementary buildings is asked to collect money to donate for Melissa's Hope Orphanage in Haiti and the Sisters of Notre Dame missions in Ghana. The donations will be split between the two. Collections will continue until April 7th.

Prevent and Protect STL

Everyone ministering to minors and vulnerable adults (clergy, employees and volunteers) in the Archdiocese are required and asked to register in the new system before December 31, 2020. This includes those new to service and those who are currently in service. In addition to attending a live Protecting God’s Children workshop, all clergy, volunteers, and employees will register for an updated background screening, view two new online training modules on abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct.
