Mrs. Dolan's Weekly Message-March 6, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, March 06, 2020

Dear Holy Cross Families,                                                              March 5, 2020

Congratulations to Maureen Tavernaro, Cyndi Hasten and Meghan Ferrara for reaching Round II in their quest to become members of the Trustey Family STEM Fellow program offered through the University of Notre Dame. Round II consisted of a live interview conducted this morning. The Trustey Family STEM Teaching Fellows is a unique, competitive, and formative program focused on increasing student interest and learning in STEM disciplines through the support and growth of high-quality STEM teachers. Each year approximately ten teams in the nation are chosen to form a cohort for a three year commitment. The Fellows will study each summer at Notre Dame implementing cross disciplinary STEM lessons during the school year.

This week twenty-eight students from our Equations Elective participated in a competition sponsored by the Gifted Resource Council and held at the University of Missouri St. Louis campus. The front of our students’ t-shirts said “Pope on a Slope” and the back featured the Pope on a slope graph with the equation (y=mx+b). Ms. Tavernaro was pleased with the students’ work and their positive representation of Holy Cross Academy.

Also this week we had shadow students from JP2 and next week we will have students from OLP. In speaking with our 6th grade students they could not believe it has been a year since they shadowed. They were very insightful in anticipating their visitors' needs and concerns.

The eighth grade students participated in the Right Start Program with instructors from the Archdiocese. The Right Start program is offered to all eighth grade students and stands for Students Tackling Abortion Realities Today. The students are encouraged to share their experience with their parents.

Speech Meet Saturday: Holy Cross Academy is hosting the third speech meet this Saturday. Ms. Bourne organized the meet and both she and Mr. Sullentrup have been coaching our students all year. Several of our Student Ambassadors along with Mrs. Berra, Mrs. Hasten, Mr. Wamser, Ms. Ferrara and Mr. Ewing will be helping to make everyone comfortable.

Cor Jesu Academy Math Meet this Saturday: This meet is open to all girls in 6th and 7th grades.

Hockey Fans: Join the HCA community at the Blues Watch Party on Tuesday, March 24, at the Enterprise Center. The cost is $10 per person with $5 going to support the HCA Art program. More details will be emailed to you soon.
