Mrs. Koberlein's Weekly Message-March 6, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, March 06, 2020

Dear HCA-OLP Families,

During the season of Lent, it is good to pause and reflect to find ways to pray, sacrifice, and give to others. Here at school we are praying the stations of the cross each week and we are doing a Change for Change collection to benefit an orphanage in Haiti and missions in Africa. I hope that you are also finding ways to pray, sacrifice, and give during this Lenten season together as a family at home.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if there is any way I may be of help!

In God’s Peace,

Mrs. Katie Koberlein

Principal, Our Lady of Providence Campus

End of Third Quarter

The third quarter will end on Friday, March 27. Starting Friday, March 13, the online gradebook will be closed for parent viewing to allow teachers to begin preparing report cards in our online system. Report cards will be available online on Friday, April 3 at 3:30 p.m.

St. Louis Blues Hockey is for Everyone Fundraiser

HCA is partnering with the Stanley Cup Champion St. Louis Blues to raise money for our Art program. It's all about a viewing party at the Enterprise Center. All concessions are open. The Zamboni cleans the ice between periods, and the "cheerleaders" toss out t-shirts. It's just like a real game except the Blues are out of town and the game is on the Jumbotron. Tickets are $10 and HCA gets $5 for each ticket we sell. For more details: HCA Hockey is for Everyone Flyer

April Lunch Orders

Ordering is now open for April school lunches. April lunch orders must be placed by Monday, March 23. After you order, please remember to bring your payment to the school office. Order now so you don’t forget!

Change for Change Collection

During Lent, STUCO is sponsoring a Change for Change campaign. Students are encouraged to collect change throughout the Lenten season. Money collected will be donated to the children of Melissa's Hope Orphanage in Haiti and to help support the missionary work of the Sisters of Notre Dame. Brown paper bags to collect the donated change have been sent home with each child. Please return them to school by April 6. For more information on Melissa's Hope, please go to melissashope.org There are pictures and videos of the children and families in Haiti supported by the orphanage.

Aftercare on Fish Fry Days

If your children go to aftercare on Fridays during Lent, you should come to the front glass doors by the school office to pick them up. Students will be in the art room instead of the cafeteria because of the fish fry. (After you pick up your students, I highly recommend heading downstairs to the fish fry. Take-out orders are also available.)

Cold and Flu, Coronavirus Precautions

The flu at OLP seems to be winding down, the coronavirus in the news has us all on high alert to prevent the spread of illness. According to the CDC, the best ways to prevent the spread of illness are to clean frequently touched surfaces, practice good handwashing, and stay home when you are sick. We are using sanitizing wipes to clean the classrooms and are encouraging children to wash their hands well throughout the school day. Please remind your children of the importance of good hand washing, and remember to keep your children home if they are having symptoms of illness, especially fevers or vomiting. Students need to be fever free without fever-reducing medication for at least 24 hours before returning to school. Thank you for helping keep our students healthy!

Fish Fries

The OLP Men’s Club will be having a fish fry every Friday during Lent except for Good Friday. Today is the first one! I hope you and your family will be able to come enjoy a delicious meal and support the Men’s Club. This is the Men’s Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and they like to use the money they earn to support different needs in the OLP community, including supporting the school. I bet everyone in your family can find something on the menu that they will like.

Registration for 2020-21 School Year

Thank you to the families who have registered for school next year. We are so glad you are coming back next year!

If you have not yet re-enrolled for next year, please follow these directions. Registration for the upcoming school year is online only. To begin the re-enrollment process please visit our website at https://www.holycross-stl.org/returning-student-registration.html and follow the FACTS Family Portal Instructions. All re-enrolling students must have a re-enrollment packet completed online and submitted to be considered enrolled for the 2020-21 school year. Prevent and Protect

The Archdiocese of St. Louis has developed a new system for safe environment compliance called Prevent and Protect STL. All volunteers in the Archdiocese are required to register in the new system before December 31, 2020. This includes new volunteers and those who are currently in service. For those who have already attended a Protecting God’s Children workshop, your previous training date will transfer to this new system. In addition to attending a live Protecting God’s Children workshop, all clergy, volunteers, and employees will register for an updated background screening, view two new online training modules on abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct. Please go to www.preventandprotectstl.org to register. To help you through this process, here is a document with helpful Instructions for Registering as an HCA Volunteer.
