Mrs. Folk's Weekly Message-March 6, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, March 06, 2020

Dear Holy Cross Academy Families,

What beautiful weather we had this week!!! We really have enjoyed the touch of spring. The children have been spending time outside during recess. I think some classes enjoyed some extra recesses as well.

On Tuesday, our campus participated in the city/county Tornado drill. The children did an amazing job in a quick and orderly fashion. Also, we had our first day with full attendance this week. We may have turned the corner on all of the sicknesses.

The 3rd graders led the K-5 in Stations of the Cross on Tuesday, enjoyed a program at the Sheldon on Wednesday, and participated in Lenten confessions on Friday.

During Lent, we are having a number of activities planned at SMA including Stations of the Cross weekly led by a different grade, Lenten series and lessons the teachers are using for their class, adoration and benediction, Change to Change alms giving, Sacrament of Reconciliation for 2nd-5th graders, and a campus retreat day on Holy Thursday. Please continue to pray for each other as we all are going through the Lenten season together.

Next week the 2nd graders will lead K-5 in Stations of the Cross on Tuesday at 8:45 am in Church. The 5th graders will enjoy their Sheldon Concert Hall field trip on Tuesday too. The 2nd and 4th graders will participate in Lenten confessions Tuesday as well. On Thursday, the Kindergartens will go on their field trip to Sheldon Concert Hall. On Friday, the Kindergartners with the help of 5th graders will lead the Mass. Please join us if you are able.

The HCPA will be hosting a meeting at SMA campus at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, March 11th. Any parent that attends receives a DOT card for their family.

Also, many parents and the children themselves have asked when they will be able to wear uniform shorts at school. After spring break the children can wear their warm weather uniform. I would suggest watching the daily temperatures because it does get chilly at the end of March when out at recess.

We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You. Because by Your Holy Cross

You have redeemed the world

God Bless!

Change for Change

Every year HCA during Lent participates in the collection Change for Change. Your child’s bag is in their Friday folder. Every child in the Academy in the elementary buildings is asked to collect money to donate for Melissa's Hope Orphanage in Haiti and the Sisters of Notre Dame missions in Ghana. The donations will be split between the two. Collections will continue until April 7th.

Prevent and Protect STL

The Archdiocese of St. Louis has developed a new system for safe environment compliance called Prevent and Protect STL. Everyone ministering to minors and vulnerable adults (clergy, employees and volunteers) in the Archdiocese are required and asked to register in the new system before December 31, 2020. This includes those new to service and those who are currently in service. For those who have already attended a Protecting God’s Children workshop, your previous training date will transfer to this new system. In addition to attending a live Protecting God’s Children workshop, all clergy, volunteers, and employees will register for an updated background screening, view two new online training modules on abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct. Please go to www.preventandprotectstl.org to register. The link for registering is on the HCA website.

All volunteers, parents going on field trips, and working in the classroom are required to take this online class. It takes about 45 minutes.
