Dr. Densberger's Weekly Message-February 28, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, February 28, 2020

Holy Cross Academy - St. John Paul II

Bulletin for the Week of March 1, 2020

We have a number of activities taking place at JP2 to celebrate the Lenten season, including daily scripture readings, decoration of the Jesus tree, Ash Wednesday Mass and ashes, Stations of the Cross or Adoration on Fridays and a retreat day on Holy Thursday. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available this week on Tuesday for 2nd- 5th graders. Thursday morning Mass this week will be prepared by the 3rd graders. As we start the journey of Lent together, know that you and your families are in our prayers.

Although we have been luckier than the other campuses, the flu season is still here. Please remind your children of the importance of good hand washing and remember to keep your children home if they are having symptoms of illness, especially fevers or vomiting. Students need to be fever free without fever-reducing medication for at least 24 hours before returning to school. Thank you for helping keep our students healthy!

Our fifth graders will be shadowing at the Middle School Campus this coming week. The boys are going on Tuesday, March 3, and the girls are going on Friday, March 6.

Don't forget the JP2 fish fry every Friday during Lent. I hope you and your family will be able to come enjoy a delicious meal and support the parish.

Change for Change: Bags will be given to every child on the three elementary campuses to collect money to donate to Melissa's Hope Orphanage in Haiti and the Sisters of Notre Dame missions in Ghana. The donations will be split between the two. Collections will continue until April 7. Your child will be bringing home the "Change for Change" bag on Friday, February 28.

Reminder: Re-registration for the 2020-21 school year using FACTS, the new school information system that we will initiate in 2020-21, takes place during the month of February. Here’s how to access FACTS online. In Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Internet Explorer go to www.factsmgt.com and click Parent Login, then select FACTS Family Portal (ParentsWeb). Type the school's code: HCA-MO. Click Create New Family Portal Account. Type your email address and click Create Account. An email will be sent which includes a link to create your login. The link is active for 6 hours. From the email, click the link to create your Family Portal (ParentsWeb) login. A web browser displays your Name and FACTS SIS Person ID. Type a User Name, Password, and Confirm the password. This weekend is the last opportunity to re-register at the $100 per family registration fee. After March 1, the registration fee is $200.

The Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation offers scholarships to families with students in area Catholic schools. There are some need-based scholarships and some that are not need-based, so all families are encouraged to apply. The application period will begin January 27 at 8:00 am, and some scholarships are first come - first served, so please apply early. Go to ttef-stl.org to apply. This online system will automatically sort your application to the scholarship you would qualify for based on your income level. Here are instructions for how families who do not currently have a scholarship can apply. Families who are renewing a scholarship should reuse the same login information. The deadline for families renewing a scholarship is February 28. More information is available at http://www.ttef-stl.org/info-for-parents/.

The Archdiocese of St. Louis has developed a new system for safe environment compliance called Prevent and Protect STL. All volunteers in the Archdiocese are required to register in the new system before December 31, 2020. This includes new volunteers and those who are currently in service. For those who have already attended a Protecting God’s Children workshop, your previous training date will transfer to this new system. In addition to attending a live Protecting God’s Children workshop, all clergy, volunteers, and employees will register for an updated background screening, view two new online training modules on abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct. Please go to www.preventandprotectstl.org to register. To help you through this process, here is a document with helpful Instructions for Registering as an HCA Volunteer.
