Mrs. Folk's Weekly Message-February 28, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, February 28, 2020

Dear Holy Cross Academy Families,

Wednesday was the start of the Holy Season of Lent. Our campus, parishioners, and many parents celebrated Ash Wednesday Mass together led by our 2nd grade. Many of the children have discussed in their classes the meaning of “giving something up” (alms giving), what good works they can do (works of mercy), and different ways to pray. Let us all pray during this Lenten season that our hearts are prepared through the Resurrection of our Lord. Each class will have the opportunity to participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation during Lent.

On Tuesday, our campus enjoyed a dance party in the gym, thanks to our Principal “Gullers”. On Thursday, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades visited Kenrick Seminary. During their visit they celebrated Mass, had lunch, and had a tour with the Seminarians. Also on Thursday, the 1st and 2nd graders went to Florissant Civic Center theater to watch the production of The Magic School Bus.

Our campus continues to be getting a little healthier each week. The amount of students out sick is getting better. Keep reminding your children to wash their hands and use hand sanitizer. We are doing this daily as well. Also, just a reminder to please make sure your kids are feeling 100% before they come back to school.

Next week the SMA campus will participate in the city/county wide tornado drill on Monday. On Wednesday, the 3rd graders are going to the Sheldon for a Music field trip. Thursday and Friday are Parent/Teacher Conferences for Preschool. Friday preschool does not have school. The 3rd graders will have their Lenten confessions heard on Friday the 6th. The Mass will be led by 1st grade, please join us.

Online registration for the 2020-21 school year is below. Please read. Enjoy a wonderful weekend.

God Bless!

Mrs. Karen Folk

Change for Change

Every year HCA during Lent participates in the collection Change for Change. Your child’s bag is in their Friday folder. Every child in the Academy in the elementary buildings is asked to collect money to donate for Melissa's Hope Orphanage in Haiti and the Sisters of Notre Dame missions in Ghana. The donations will be split between the two. Collections will continue until April 7th.

Prevent and Protect STL

The Archdiocese of St. Louis has developed a new system for safe environment compliance called Prevent and Protect STL. Everyone ministering to minors and vulnerable adults (clergy, employees and volunteers) in the Archdiocese are required and asked to register in the new system before December 31, 2020. This includes those new to service and those who are currently in service. For those who have already attended a Protecting God’s Children workshop, your previous training date will transfer to this new system. In addition to attending a live Protecting God’s Children workshop, all clergy, volunteers, and employees will register for an updated background screening, view two new online training modules on abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct. Please go to www.preventandprotectstl.org to register. The link for registering is on the HCA website.

All volunteers, parents going on field trips, and working in the classroom are required to take this online class. It takes about 45 minutes.
