Mrs. Koberlein's Weekly Message-February 21, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, February 21, 2020

Dear HCA-OLP Families,

This is an exciting time as a principal at Holy Cross as families have been enrolling for next year on our online system. It is great to see so many families returning for next year, and I am excited to envision all of our students learning and playing together next year with the students from the other campuses. I look forward to this wonderful coming-together of the HCA school community!

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if there is any way I may be of help!

In God’s Peace,

Mrs. Katie Koberlein

Principal, Our Lady of Providence Campus

Cold and Flu Season Still in Full Swing

We have still had a number of students absent each day this week as the flu is going around our campus. Please remind your children of the importance of good hand washing, and remember to keep your children home if they are having symptoms of illness, especially fevers or vomiting. Students need to be fever free without fever-reducing medication for at least 24 hours before returning to school. Thank you for helping keep our students healthy!

Treats from our Principals for the Day

On Thursday, we had two principals for the day, Alice and Maddie Vogel. They announced two special treats they would like to give the school. On Monday, we will have a dress down day at OLP campus, and on Tuesday, OLP campus will have a movie day. Thank you, Alice and Maddie, for doing a wonderful job as principals for the day!

Fish Fries

The OLP Men’s Club will be having a fish fry every Friday during Lent except for Good Friday. I hope you and your family will be able to come enjoy a delicious meal and support the Men’s Club. This is the Men’s Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and they like to use the money they earn to support different needs in the OLP community, including supporting the school. I bet everyone in your family can find something on the menu that they will like.

Online Registration Update for the 2020-21 School Year. As a reminder, registration for the upcoming school year is online only. To begin the re-enrollment process please visit our website at https://www.holycross-stl.org/returning-student-registration.html > follow the FACTS Family Portal Instructions. All re-enrolling students must have a re-enrollment packet completed online and submitted, to be considered enrolled for the 2020-21 school year. Once you click submit in the system, it will prompt you to pay the $100/Family registration fee and then prompt you to set up your online tuition settings. Once you have completed all of these steps you will receive a confirmation email from FACTS (RenWeb). If you have questions pertaining to FACTS or general enrollment, please contact:

Preschool FACTS Questions: Angie Langhauser - Director of Early Childhood Ed.

K-8th Grade FACTS Questions: Karen Folk - Principal of the SMA Campus

SvDP Diaper and Blanket Drive

The 2020 Diaper and Blanket Drive conducted by our St. Vincent DePaul Holy Cross Academy 7th graders was a huge success. Many thanks to the school children from Holy Cross Academy and the parishes participating in the drive including Annunciation, Seven Holy Founders, John Paul II, and Our Lady of Providence. Thanks to your help we collected over 1,800 diapers, 40 blankets, and 8 winter coats which were taken and distributed to Saint Vincent DePaul, Saint Agatha, Saint Anthony of Padua, and Our Little Haven. Thank you again for your generosity and community outreach.

March Lunch Orders

The deadline for placing March lunch orders is today, February 21. After placing your order online, please remember to pay in the school office.

TTEF Scholarships

The Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation offers scholarships to families with students in area Catholic schools. There are some need-based scholarships and some that are not need-based, so all families are encouraged to apply. The application period will begin January 27 at 8:00am, and some scholarships are first come, first served, so please apply right away! Go to ttef-stl.org to apply. This online system will automatically sort your application to the scholarship you would qualify for based on your income level. Here are instructions for how families who do not currently have a scholarship can apply.

Families who are renewing a scholarship should reuse the same login information. The deadline for families renewing a scholarship is February 28. More information is available at http://www.ttef-stl.org/info-for-parents/.

NCADA Lessons

During the month of February, we will have four visits from Beth Riegert, a prevention educator from the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse - St. Louis area (NCADA). This wonderful program is available to our school at no cost, thanks to the Children’s Services Fund. Over the next few weeks, she will do four lessons with each K-5 class at OLP. In the lower grades, they discuss friendship and feelings, and grades four and five cover topics such as respect, tolerance, empathy, and responsibility/accountability. Please contact me if you would like more information about this program.

Prevent and Protect

The Archdiocese of St. Louis has developed a new system for safe environment compliance called Prevent and Protect STL. All volunteers in the Archdiocese are required to register in the new system before December 31, 2020. This includes new volunteers and those who are currently in service. For those who have already attended a Protecting God’s Children workshop, your previous training date will transfer to this new system. In addition to attending a live Protecting God’s Children workshop, all clergy, volunteers, and employees will register for an updated background screening, view two new online training modules on abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct. Please go to www.preventandprotectstl.org to register. To help you through this process, here is a document with helpful Instructions for Registering as an HCA Volunteer.
