Mrs. Koberlein's Weekly Message-February 14, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, February 14, 2020

Dear HCA-OLP Families,

Today we are celebrating as one school community the feast of the Seven Holy Founders. It is always inspiring for me to see the whole K-8 student body together as one group for the celebration of the Eucharist. I hope this experience has also been meaningful for the students and for any of you who were able to join us.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if there is any way I may be of help!

In God’s Peace,

Mrs. Katie Koberlein

Principal, Our Lady of Providence Campus

Congratulations, Mrs. Fields!

Congratulations to Barb Fields! She was honored as the Excellent Educator of the Month yesterday by the Kiwanis Club of Crestwood/Sunset Hills. Barb Fields was selected for this award because of the foundation she gives her students, teaching them how to learn, because of her attention to individual students’ needs, and because of her eagerness to continue to learn and incorporate new ideas into her teaching to better serve the needs of her students. We are truly blessed to have Mrs. Fields as part of our school community at HCA!

Parking Lot Safety

Please remember to give instructions to anyone who is filling in for you and picking up your children from school. Recently we have had several instances of people driving the wrong way in the parking lot, which creates a safety hazard for the students who are dismissing. Our procedures are posted under the “parents” tab on our website.

Fish Fries

The OLP Men’s Club will be having a fish fry every Friday during Lent except for Good Friday. I hope you and your family will be able to come enjoy a delicious meal and support the Men’s Club. This is the Men’s Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and they like to use the money they earn to support different needs in the OLP community, including supporting the school. I bet everyone in your family can find something on the menu that they will like.

Online Registration

Online registration through the new FACTS system is now up and running. Thank you to the parents who have already completed the online registration process. All re-enrolling families should use this link: http://factsmgt.com/ and follow the instructions in this document to create a family portal and begin the process. As a reminder, the family registration fee is currently $100/family but will increase to $200 on March 2nd.

If you have any questions pertaining to the FACTS system and registration you may contact HCA Communication Coordinator, Lauren Bryant at: lbryant@hca-stl.org. If you have questions pertaining to tuition please contact HCA Business Manager, Sue Barnowski at: sbarnowski@hca-stl.org.

Lost and Found

The lost and found in the OLP cafeteria is overflowing. Please remind your child to have a look for any missing items, or if you would like to, you may pop into the building to check for yourself when you are here at pickup or dropoff time. We will donate items that are still left on Feb. 18.

Valentine’s Parties

Thank you to the parents who volunteered to help with class parties for Valentine’s Day. The teachers appreciated your help, the students had a lot of fun, and we hope that you also enjoyed the time in your child’s classroom.

March Lunch Orders

The deadline for placing March lunch orders is February 21. After placing your order online, please remember to pay in the school office. Order now so you don’t forget!

Girls on the Run

It is time to register for Girls on the Run! Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based character development program to empower girls for a lifetime of healthy living. If your daughter is interested in Girls on the Run, registration closes on February 19th at noon. To register, go to www.girlsontherunstlouis.org. There are scholarships available to help with the registration fee! Practices will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 3-4:30 pm.

TTEF Scholarships

The Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation offers scholarships to families with students in area Catholic schools. There are some need-based scholarships and some that are not need-based, so all families are encouraged to apply. The application period will begin January 27 at 8:00am, and some scholarships are first come, first served, so please apply right away! Go to ttef-stl.org to apply. This online system will automatically sort your application to the scholarship you would qualify for based on your income level. Here are instructions for how families who do not currently have a scholarship can apply.

Families who are renewing a scholarship should reuse the same login information. The deadline for families renewing a scholarship is February 28. More information is available at http://www.ttef-stl.org/info-for-parents/.

NCADA Lessons

During the month of February, we will have four visits from Beth Riegert, a prevention educator from the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse - St. Louis area (NCADA). This wonderful program is available to our school at no cost, thanks to the Children’s Services Fund. Over the next few weeks, she will do four lessons with each K-5 class at OLP. In the lower grades, they discuss friendship and feelings, and grades four and five cover topics such as respect, tolerance, empathy, and responsibility/accountability. Please contact me if you would like more information about this program.

Prevent and Protect

The Archdiocese of St. Louis has developed a new system for safe environment compliance called Prevent and Protect STL. All volunteers in the Archdiocese are required to register in the new system before December 31, 2020. This includes new volunteers and those who are currently in service. For those who have already attended a Protecting God’s Children workshop, your previous training date will transfer to this new system. In addition to attending a live Protecting God’s Children workshop, all clergy, volunteers, and employees will register for an updated background screening, view two new online training modules on abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct. Please go to www.preventandprotectstl.org to register. To help you through this process, here is a document with helpful Instructions for Registering as an HCA Volunteer.
