HCA Update: February 7, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Saturday, February 08, 2020

Dear Parents,

I hope all of you and your families have had a good week. Amazingly, we are already one full week into February. This letter is a to share with you some of the events and happenings that took place during the week, or are in the process of happening right now.

Committees
Several committee heads have reached out to begin scheduling meetings. If you signed up for a committee and have not yet heard from them, please know that they will be reaching out in the next couple of days. We will follow up with specific Focus Groups as they are scheduled so that you can participate if you are interested.

Middle School Preview Night
Monday night was our Middle School Information Night for new students. Thanks to the faculty and staff for showcasing our strong core curriculum and all of the unique programs we offer to help our students learn about the world in new ways, including the extensive offerings in the ways of electives, clubs, and STREAM classes. We can say without hesitation that our students are prepared for a positive transition to high school when they graduate. We often hear compliments from area high school administrators in regards to the students they receive who are graduates of our Holy Cross Academy. As most all of us know in Saint Louis, the question of ‘What high school did you go to?’ is one of general interest and conversation. See below the number of HCA graduates from the Classes of 2016-2019 who are currently attending the high schools that they chose in their eighth grade year:

Affton (14)                  Lindbergh (13)                  SLUH (20)

Des Smet (6)              St. Joseph’s Academy (3)  Webster Groves (7)

2020-2021 Registration Is Now Open
If you have not registered for next year yet, please use the link provided to enroll through our new FACTS Student Information System. http://www.factsmgt.com/ Please see the Family Portal Instructions attached here: Family Portal Log-In Instructions

Please Note: All current families must use the "Re-Enrollment" packet to register your current students. The application is for NEW STUDENTS only, either new to the Academy or first time students from your family. All other students must go straight to the re-enrollment packet for registration. It does take about 20 minutes per child and that there have been short delays when creating a new account for authentication emails to arrive. There is a document upload section at the end. In an effort to make all student files electronic, there are documents that are required to submit in order to complete the registration packet. You may save your progress and return to it at your convenience.

We hope you can forgive the up-front efforts because the new system, when fully deployed next year, has a lot of great features to offer our community. If you have any issues with setting up your account, please contact Lauren Bryant. She has been doing a great job of correcting some of the a2zware data transfer errors and we thank her for all of her efforts to make the transition a success. In the first five days of open registration there are 180 students in the process of being registered for next year.

Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation scholarships
There are some need-based scholarships as well as some scholarships that are not need-based; so, all families are encouraged to apply. The application period already began on January 27th, and some scholarships are first come - first served, so please apply early. Go to ttef-stl.org to apply and for more information. This online system will automatically sort your application to the scholarship you would qualify for based on your income level. The deadline for families renewing a scholarship is February 28.

Educator of the Year – Great news!
Please join me in congratulating Paula Hackbarth for her Educational Excellence Award from the Affton Chamber of Commerce. Mrs. Hackbarth, who is our Kindergarten teacher at the St. Michael Campus, is beloved by her students, peers, and our families. Holy Cross Academy is blessed by her dedication and excellence in teaching, and her love for Jesus Christ. Congratulations Mrs. Hackbarth!

As we continue as one faith community to work towards and make progress in realizing our goal of achieving exceptional education and faith formation rooted in Jesus Christ, may we pray for one another and may you have a blessed weekend.

Gratefully,
Father Mike Esswein

We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You;
because by Your Holy Cross, You have redeemed the world.
