Mrs. Dolan's Weekly Message-February 7, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, February 07, 2020

Dear Holy Cross Families, February 7, 2020

Congratulations to the Class of 2020! This year our eighth grade students will be going to following high schools: Affton (1), Bishop DuBourg (3), Christian Brothers College (2), Clayton (1) Cor Jesu Academy (6), Lindbergh (5), Nerinx Hall (10), Notre Dame (1), Rosati-Kain (1), St. Louis University High (10), St. Joseph Academy (2), Ursuline Academy (2), St. John Vianney (13), Webster Groves (5) and one student will be going out of state. Our Middle School goal is to prepare our students to go forward and be successful at any area high school. We know our students will be ready.

Today was the Futsol Tournament during specials’ classes. The 6th & 7th grade champions are still undecided and the eighth grade winner is 8B. The sports tournaments are always fun for the students and a good community builder for the Middle School campus. Thank you Mrs. Smyka and Mr. Belitz, for providing the tournament.

The sixth grade class was treated to ice cream sandwiches from the Baked Bear Tuesday. The students wrote business letters in class to various companies. Colin, from the Baked Bear, was so impressed he asked if he could bring students ice cream. Before serving the students, he explained that in this time of social media and mean and ugly things on the internet, it was refreshing to receive a well written positive letter. Congratulations to Anthony Beffa for writing the letter. The Baked Bear is known for their custom ice cream sandwiches and is located in the Delmar Loop.

Every year we talk about saying “YES” to good opportunities. In addition to our regular clubs and activities during the week, last Saturday over 80 students and 6 faculty members were involved in weekend events. The eighth grade class had their Confirmation Retreat, the Clavius Project finished their year at the SLUH Robotics Jamboree and there was also a Speech Meet on Saturday. Congratulations to all of our students who represented Holy Cross Academy in one or more of these activities. Thank you to Ms. Kern and Ms. Sasser for helping with the Retreat, Ms. Tavernao and Ms. Ferrara for sponsoring Robotics all semester through the Jamboree, and to Ms. Bourne and Mr. Sullentrup for sponsoring speech. I had the opportunity to go to the Jamboree and it is an exciting event preparing our students for the future.

FACTS Online Registration: Online registration through the new FACTS system is now up and running. You can access the online registration through our school website at holycross-stl.org. This document gives you directions about how to get started. One tip is that returning families can skip the “Application” step and go right to “Enrollment” unless they are registering students who are new to HCA. Please contact Lauren Bryant lbryant@hca-stl.org if you run into any difficulties.

Principal’s Coffee – all grade levels: Wednesday, February 12, 7:30 am. Parents should come in following drop off and visit with each other as we wait for those dropping off at an elementary campus.

Sixth Grade Camp: Sixth grade camp is April 14-17 and we are still in need of some parents chaperones. At the request of YMCA Camp Lakewood they ask for the Chaperones to stay the entire time to ensure that the students have an authentic camp experience.

The Faith Formation Day scheduled for Wednesday will be rescheduled in the near future.

Next week:

Monday: Math Club 2:40

Tuesday: Mass 8:00am, Math Meet - Christ Prince of Peace 3:00pm

Wednesday: Coffee Principal 7:30 am

Friday: All Academy Mass at Seven Holy Founders 7:00-12:00pm

Saturday: Math Counts Competition 8:30 at Florissant Community College

We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You. Because by Your Holy Cross

You have redeemed the world.
