Mrs. Koberlein's Weekly Message-February 7, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, February 07, 2020

Dear HCA-OLP Families,

Reflecting back on this week, my thoughts are drawn to the strength that our faith foundation gives our community. This week, I have seen so many instances of students living out our Christian values, showing kindness to classmates who are sad, helping clean up spills, helping people who are hurt, and more. This work of forming young Christians is just as important as the academic work we do. Thank you for allowing us to be your partners in this!

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if there is any way I may be of help!

In God’s Peace,

Mrs. Katie Koberlein

Principal, Our Lady of Providence Campus

All-Academy Mass and Retreat Day

Next Friday, February 14, K-8 students will participate in the All Academy Mass and retreat day in celebration of the Feast of the Seven Holy Founders. Parents are welcome to join us for mass at 9:00. All K-8 students will be dropped off and picked up from the Seven Holy Founders campus. Students should wear their white HCA logo polo shirts. Books bags are not needed for the day, but students who are staying for aftercare should bring a lunch.

Drop off at the SHF campus will be between 7:00 - 7:45. At pick up, parents will need to come into the church and sign out their child from their homeroom teacher. All students will be picked up in the church. Due to the large number of students, you can pick up your student any time between 11:45 and 12:15.

Preschool students will stay on their home campus. If you have a preschool and K-8 student, we recommend picking up your preschool student first and then head to SHF to pick up your older students. Preschool students may be picked up starting at 11:30 this day.

Online Registration

Online registration through the new FACTS system is now up and running. You can access the online registration through our school website at holycross-stl.org. This document gives you directions about how to get started. One tip is that returning families can skip the “Application” step and go right to “Enrollment” unless they are registering students who are new to HCA. Please contact Lauren Bryant lbryant@hca-stl.org if you run into any difficulties.

Lost and Found

The lost and found in the OLP cafeteria is overflowing. Items have been set out on tables in the cafeteria. Please remind your child to have a look for any missing items, or if you would like to, you may pop into the building to check for yourself when you are here at pickup or dropoff time. We will donate items that are still left on Feb. 18.

Valentine’s Parties, Dress Down

K-5 Class Valentine’s Day parties will be on Feb. 13, at 2:00. Students may exchange valentines and HCPA room parents will help with activities. A snack and drink will be provided. Students may also be out of uniform on Feb. 13, wearing red/pink in a Valentine’s theme. (They do NOT need to wear uniform bottoms.)

March Lunch Orders

March lunch orders can now be placed. The deadline for placing March lunch orders is February 21. After placing your order online, please remember to pay in the school office. Order now so you don’t forget!

Girls on the Run

It is time to register for Girls on the Run! Girls on the Run is a physical activity-based character development program to empower girls for a lifetime of healthy living. If your daughter is interested in Girls on the Run, registration closes on February 19th at noon. To register, go to www.girlsontherunstlouis.org. There are scholarships available to help with the registration fee! Practices will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 3-4:30 pm.

TTEF Scholarships

The Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation offers scholarships to families with students in area Catholic schools. There are some need-based scholarships and some that are not need-based, so all families are encouraged to apply. The application period will begin January 27 at 8:00am, and some scholarships are first come, first served, so please apply right away! Go to ttef-stl.org to apply. This online system will automatically sort your application to the scholarship you would qualify for based on your income level. Here are instructions for how families who do not currently have a scholarship can apply.

Families who are renewing a scholarship should reuse the same login information. The deadline for families renewing a scholarship is February 28. More information is available at http://www.ttef-stl.org/info-for-parents/.

NCADA Lessons

During the month of February, we will have four visits from Beth Riegert, a prevention educator from the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse - St. Louis area (NCADA). This wonderful program is available to our school at no cost, thanks to the Children’s Services Fund. Over the next few weeks, she will do four lessons with each K-5 class at OLP. In the lower grades, they discuss friendship and feelings, and grades four and five cover topics such as respect, tolerance, empathy, and responsibility/accountability. Please contact me if you would like more information about this program.

Prevent and Protect

The Archdiocese of St. Louis has developed a new system for safe environment compliance called Prevent and Protect STL. All volunteers in the Archdiocese are required to register in the new system before December 31, 2020. This includes new volunteers and those who are currently in service. For those who have already attended a Protecting God’s Children workshop, your previous training date will transfer to this new system. In addition to attending a live Protecting God’s Children workshop, all clergy, volunteers, and employees will register for an updated background screening, view two new online training modules on abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct. Please go to www.preventandprotectstl.org to register. To help you through this process, here is a document with helpful Instructions for Registering as an HCA Volunteer.
