HCA Update: January 31, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Saturday, February 01, 2020

 Dear Parents,

Catholic Schools Week is always a week where time is given to our students to do some fun as well as some ‘wacky and crazy’ things as a way to celebrate and enjoy being a member of our Catholic school community. This special week began with many of our students participating in liturgical ministry roles at the Sunday Masses this past weekend at all five of our HCA parishes. Having your children participate at these Sunday Masses in such prominent roles and wearing their school uniforms as they helped lead their parish families in prayer and worship of God is a real gift to our parish communities. The Pastors and I thank you parents who volunteered your children or encouraged them to participate in these Masses as liturgical ministers, not to mention to wear their school uniforms on a non-school day! For all of you who had to give some “extra encouragement” to your child when it came to wearing their uniform…. Thank you!

And now for this weeks updates as we continue to work towards realizing our new structure for Holy Cross Academy – building, as one faith community for our five parishes, an exceptional educational and faith formation program with Jesus Christ at the center while preparing our students to live a Catholic life for Christ in an ever-changing world:

Committees and Focus Groups

An email went out this week with a Sign Up Genius link for parents and faculty to sign up for one of the seven committees. Leaders for each of those committees will reach out directly to those who signed up early next week to set up meetings or give an idea of when meetings will begin. Thanks to those of you who have already signed up to shape these important aspects of our structure change. Any parent or community member who would like to participate in focus groups as they occur can also sign up using the same link. Please be sure to indicate which focus group topic or topics interest you (for example, After School Program or Sacraments). The link is: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0A4FAEAC2EA4FE3-holy

Enrollment through FACTS

Enrollment for 2020-2021 opens this Monday, February 3, using our new Student Information System, FACTS. Our HCA Administration sent an email about how to access the portal earlier this week and we will continue to provide support for parents as we transition to this new communication system. If you have any questions as you use the system, please contact your principal. You will get to experience all of the features of FACTS as we enter the 2020-21 school year. For now, we are only utilizing the enrollment portion of the portal. We will continue to communicate with you about other features, as we get closer.

Transportation Committee

The Transportation Committee has done great work in developing a transportation plan for HCA. Using surveys, focus groups, and Q&A sessions, this subcommittee determined the needs and preferences of the HCA community. They have determined that we should utilize buses to shuttle children between campuses, beginning in the 2020-21 school year.

HCA is now committed to providing the transportation as proposed with the two buses following the routes and times specified in previous emails and presented at the Preview Night and Open Houses. While we still might tweak the start/stop times based on continual evaluation of the transportation system, the order of stops will not change. We might add additional stops in the future, but this would not affect the routes we have currently laid out. Attached is an updated version of the routes with those adjusted times.

Other Updates

We will be providing information soon about some special Professional Development that we are offering our faculty to aid their transition to the new model. We have three excellent professionals consulting with our administrators, Stephanie True, Christi Peters, and Colleen Mooney. We are excited to share more with you about Professional Development in the late February/early March time frame.

I hope you all have a Super weekend as we celebrate on Sunday three unrelated but significant things in their own rites: the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord which also happens to be the 4th Joyful Mystery; Ground Hog Day when I hope Punxsutawney Phil does not see his shadow and spring is on its way!; and the Super Bowl where the Chiefs will hopefully be victorious and bring the Vince Lombardi Trophy home to Missouri!
