Mrs. Koberlein's Weekly Message-January 31, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, January 31, 2020

Dear HCA-OLP Families,

What a week! Starting with Open House on Sunday, we have been having a wonderful time with Catholic Schools Week. From our teachers vs. 5th grade volleyball game to our Drop Everything And Read time with hot cocoa in the gym, this week has been full of exciting special events. Today the children are dressed as their parents, and it is amazing to see they joy they have in being just like their moms and dads!

I want to take a moment to just say thanks to our HCA parents. We are honored that you have entrusted your children to us during the school day, and we are happy to be partners with you in helping your children grow spiritually, intellectually, and socially.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if there is any way I may be of help!

In God’s Peace,

Mrs. Katie Koberlein

Principal, Our Lady of Providence Campus

Catholic Schools Week

Next week, we are excited to celebrate our school with Catholic Schools Week. Please see this flyer for details about theme, activity, and dress-down for each day.

Father-Daughter Dance

All HCA girls are welcome to attend the Father/Daughter Dance with their dad or another male relative or family friend. This will be on Friday, February 7 in the Annunciation gym. Go to http://HCADance20.givesmart.com to register.

TTEF Scholarships

The Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation offers scholarships to families with students in area Catholic schools. There are some need-based scholarships and some that are not need-based, so all families are encouraged to apply. The application period will begin January 27 at 8:00am, and some scholarships are first come, first served, so please apply right away! Go to ttef-stl.org to apply. This online system will automatically sort your application to the scholarship you would qualify for based on your income level. Here are instructions for how families who do not currently have a scholarship can apply.

Families who are renewing a scholarship should reuse the same login information. The deadline for families renewing a scholarship is February 28. More information is available at http://www.ttef-stl.org/info-for-parents/.

NCADA Lessons

During the month of February, we will have four visits from Beth Riegert, a prevention educator from the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse - St. Louis area (NCADA). This wonderful program is available to our school at no cost, thanks to the Children’s Services Fund. Over the next few weeks, she will do four lessons with each K-5 class at OLP. In the lower grades, they discuss friendship and feelings, and grades four and five cover topics such as respect, tolerance, empathy, and responsibility/accountability. Please contact me if you would like more information about this program.

Middle School Information Night

Please join the Middle School Faculty Monday, February 3 at 6:30pm on the Annunciation Campus. This meeting is for adults only and open to parents in all grade levels wanting to know more about our unique Middle School. The faculty will present an overview of our entire program and you will receive a packet of essential information. There will also be time for questions. Spread the word; bring your friends and neighbors too!

Prevent and Protect

The Archdiocese of St. Louis has developed a new system for safe environment compliance called Prevent and Protect STL. All volunteers in the Archdiocese are required to register in the new system before December 31, 2020. This includes new volunteers and those who are currently in service. For those who have already attended a Protecting God’s Children workshop, your previous training date will transfer to this new system. In addition to attending a live Protecting God’s Children workshop, all clergy, volunteers, and employees will register for an updated background screening, view two new online training modules on abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct. Please go to www.preventandprotectstl.org to register. To help you through this process, here is a document with helpful Instructions for Registering as an HCA Volunteer.
