HCA Update: Friday, January 17, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Tuesday, January 21, 2020

Dear Parents of HCA,

We continue to make progress towards realizing our new structure for Holy Cross Academy – building, as one faith community for our five parishes, an exceptional educational program with Jesus Christ at the center, and preparing our students to live a life for Christ in an ever-changing world.

Here is this week’s update:

Preview Night

HCA will be hosting our Preview Night on Thursday, January 23rd at the ANN Middle School campus beginning at 6 pm. On this evening, we will be providing four sessions to share information about the 2020-2021 school year with parents. The Preview Night will include sessions on our Early Childhood and new year-round program, Primary (K-2), Intermediate (3-5), and School Life/Logistics. This event will run very similar to our back to school nights where we gather in the church first and then attend the appropriate sessions based on your children's grades for the coming school year. Each session will run four times to give parents the opportunity to attend every session. This event is for parents only.

Committees

We have received many requests this week to learn about the Committees that are standing up and how to get involved. There are seven, including Transportation, that will be presented at the Preview Night. Some will begin meeting before the end of this month (Student Life & Parent Support, Communications, and Marketing), and others will form in February (Community and Faith Formation) or March (Logistics). We are seeking between 4-10 members for each committee, and sign ups will be available at the Preview Night. For those who want to provide inputs but are unable to join, we will administer surveys for the Committees to review before they make proposals to the Administration and Pastors.

The committees each have a central question to answer:

  • Transportation - Do we have enough interest to invest in a bus?

  • Marketing - How can we showcase the benefits of this model for current and new families?

  • Communications - How can we prevent future surprises and make sure information is distributed efficiently?

  • Community (parish and intra-academy) - What can we do to sustain the strengths of our parishes and maintain the bonds between students at different campuses?

  • Faith Formation - How can we enhance our current faith formation programs to serve the whole community?

  • Logistics - How can we ensure an efficient move of classroom resources for our teachers?

  • Student Life & Parent Support (including class parties and conferences) - What changes to regular operations are need to accommodate multi-campus families?

Transportation

Thank you for completing the transportation survey. The transportation subcommittee explored this data with a focus group of 19 parents on Wednesday night of this week. Most of these parents will have children attending multiple campuses in the new model. The focus group was productive and encouraging, and we are grateful to the parents who sacrificed their evenings to participate. Next week, you will receive a summary of the focus group discussion. This email will also include a presentation/handout with explanations and figures about the bus/shuttle plan and specific times for drop-off and pick-up (that might be subject to change).

At our Preview Night on Thursday, we will provide you with concrete start and dismissal times for next year, as well as how early each campus will open. We know many of you are also interested to learn the implications for our After School Programming.

Following the conclusion of the Preview Night there will be an additional Q&A session dedicated to transportation for any questions you might still have about the information and details that you will receive during the Logistics session of the night

Up Next

  • Catholic School’s Week begins on Sunday, January 26, with our campus Open House events. We hope to see you there. The faculty and staff have prepared a great week for our community to celebrate We are Many Parts, One Body.

  • Registration will open using our new Student Information System, FACTS, in early February. More information is coming soon about how to access the system and all of the ways it will improve communication for Holy Cross Academy.

I hope you all have a good weekend and Martin Luther King Day on Monday.

Father Mike Esswein

We adore You, O Christ, and we praise You;

Because by Your Holy Cross You have redeemed the World.
