Mrs. Koberlein's Weekly Message-January 17, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, January 17, 2020

Dear HCA-OLP Families,

Now that the Christmas Season has officially ended, we are back to Ordinary Time. As I reflect on the start of Ordinary Time, I think of the many Ordinary ways that we see signs of God’s love in others around us. These Ordinary signs of God’s love are present in our school every day. They can be small things, like helping someone clean up a spill, comforting a classmate who is sad, showing good sportsmanship at PE, or using polite language and kind words. But these small Ordinary things add up to help us feel God’s extraordinary love for us each day here at Holy Cross Academy.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if there is any way I may be of help!

In God’s Peace,

Mrs. Katie Koberlein

Principal, Our Lady of Providence Campus

Welcome our Long-Term Substitute, Noelle Trueman

Amy Zehnle headed to the hospital today to have her baby. We are all thrilled for her and her family as they welcome their new daughter, Harper! We are also happy to welcome her long-term substitute, Noelle Trueman. Mrs. Trueman filled in for a teacher at the SMA campus earlier this school year, and she did an excellent job there. It is a blessing for our campus that we are able to have someone here who we know we can trust to do an excellent job nurturing our first graders and helping them grow in both academics and their faith.

TTEF Scholarships

The Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation offers scholarships to families with students in area Catholic schools. There are some need-based scholarships and some that are not need-based, so all families are encouraged to apply. The application period will begin January 27 at 8:00am, and some scholarships are first come, first served, so please apply right away! Go to ttef-stl.org to apply. This online system will automatically sort your application to the scholarship you would qualify for based on your income level. Here are instructions for how families who do not currently have a scholarship can apply.

Families who are renewing a scholarship should reuse the same login information. The deadline for families renewing a scholarship is February 28. More information is available at http://www.ttef-stl.org/info-for-parents/.

Kindergarten Exploration Night

Thank you to all of the parents who attended our Kindergarten Exploration Night. It was exciting to see so many parents coming to check out what we have to offer in our kindergarten program. We hope it was an informative evening for everyone. If you have any questions, please come to our HCA Preview Night or just give us a call.

HCA Preview Night

We will have an HCA Preview Night on Thursday, January 23rd at 6:00 at the ANN campus for current families to learn more about the upcoming school year. On this evening, we will be providing four sessions to share information about the 2020-2021 school year with parents. The Preview Night will include sessions on our early childhood program, K-2, 3-5, and School Life/Logistics. This event will run very similar to our back to school nights where everyone gathers in the church first and then can attend the appropriate sessions based on their children's grades for the coming school year. Each session will run four times to give parents the opportunity to attend every session. This event is for parents only.

February Lunch Orders

February lunch orders can now be placed online. The last day to order is January 24. Order now so you don’t forget!

Open House

The HCA Open House will take place as originally planned on Sunday, January 26 from 10-1 pm as we kick off Catholic Schools Week. We have extended the hours of our open house in order to give families more time to tour each campus if they choose. This event will be hosted by our teachers and administrators and will have Preschool teachers host at the JPII campus, K-2 teachers host at the SMA campus, 3-5 teachers host at the OLP campus, and 6-8 teachers host at the ANN campus. We invite you to attend the open house with your children to allow them a chance to experience each building and the unique features of each HCA campus.

Middle School Information Night

As a reminder, the Middle School Information Night will take place as originally planned on Monday, February 3 at the ANN campus from 6:30-7:30 pm. The Middle School Information is designed for parents of rising 6th graders to learn more about our middle school program.

End of Second Quarter

The second quarter will end today, Friday, January 17. Today, the online gradebook will be closed for parent viewing to allow teachers to begin preparing report cards in our online system. Report cards will be available online on Friday, January 24 at 3:30 p.m.

Prevent and Protect

The Archdiocese of St. Louis has developed a new system for safe environment compliance called Prevent and Protect STL. All volunteers in the Archdiocese are required to register in the new system before December 31, 2020. This includes new volunteers and those who are currently in service. For those who have already attended a Protecting God’s Children workshop, your previous training date will transfer to this new system. In addition to attending a live Protecting God’s Children workshop, all clergy, volunteers, and employees will register for an updated background screening, view two new online training modules on abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct. Please go to www.preventandprotectstl.org to register. To help you through this process, here is a document with helpful Instructions for Registering as an HCA Volunteer.
