Mrs. Folk's Weekly Message-January 10, 2020

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, January 10, 2020

Dear Holy Cross Academy Families,

Happy New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful, restful holiday break. It is still hard to believe we are in the year 2020. Most of the children were excited to be back at school and talking about their break and holidays.

Although Christmas is over we were still able to enjoy one last celebration with the Advent concert on Tuesday night. The students worked so hard on this great performance. A special thanks goes to Mrs. Eryn Krobath for leading the students through the amazing performance and the many practices. Also, thank you to all of the teachers for all their help in preparing and assisting during the performance and many practices. Thank you to the parents and families for their flexibility and understanding in rescheduling the concert to January What a great team effort!!!

I know that many of you have questions or concerns regarding the upcoming changes for Holy Cross Academy next year. Stay tuned for opportunities to become involved in the process as we move forward. We look forward to parents joining us on January 23rd at the upcoming Preview Night at Annunciation campus starting at 6:00pm for more detailed information. Hope you can join us.

Next Thursday, January 16th there will be a Kindergarten Exploration Night starting at 6:30 pm at the SMA campus. The night is meant to share information on curriculum, faith formation, financial assistance, facilities, and meeting teachers and administrators.

Don’t forget next Friday is a noon dismissal for a teacher professional development afternoon. Aftercare forms are available if needed on a2zware.

Have a good weekend.

God Bless!

Mrs. Karen Folk

If anyone you know, like grandpa and grandma, are interested in OASIS Tutoring for the Academy, then please go to the New Tutor Training that will take place on Monday, January 21, 2020 from 9am-3:30pm at Our Lady of Providence School. Protecting God’s Children will be offered. For more information contact Mary Winkelmann, OASIS Coordinator, at mwinkelmann@archstl.org and she will get in touch with them.

Prevent and Protect STL

The Archdiocese of St. Louis has developed a new system for safe environment compliance called Prevent and Protect STL. Everyone ministering to minors and vulnerable adults (clergy, employees and volunteers) in the Archdiocese are required and asked to register in the new system before December 31, 2020. This includes those new to service and those who are currently in service. For those who have already attended a Protecting God’s Children workshop, your previous training date will transfer to this new system. In addition to attending a live Protecting God’s Children workshop, all clergy, volunteers, and employees will register for an updated background screening, view two new online training modules on abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct. Please go to www.preventandprotectstl.org to register. The link for registering is on HCA website.

UPCOMING Events Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus

The Following Programs are being sponsored by the Council thru March period

Please make sure to invite your wives and kids to be a part of all the upcoming events listed below. We are a Catholic Fraternal Family organization, and wives are now invited to be a part of all we do at council meetings, programs that we sponsor and co-chairing events conducted in support of our parish, our School & the community we live in.

Sunday NFL Division Final Chili Tailgate & Annual Basketball Free Throw Contest January 19th, 2020

This is a council fundraiser and net proceeds will be split with supporting seminarians at Kenrick Glennon Seminary and

Holy Cross Academy on St. Michael’s campus to help cover some of the “out of pocket costs” teachers spend to provide items for their classrooms.

We will again be hosting our Council indoor NFL Chili Tailgate and NFL Division Finals that will be “Big Screened” and begin at 1 PM available to all parishioners who would like to share a fun afternoon, and diversion for parents who will be supporting their kids who will be playing basketball games that will precede the “Annual Basketball Free Throw” program that will begin after scheduled games around 5 PM.

Families will be charged a flat fee of $ 20.00 that includes chili, sides, and adult beverages with kids eating free. Families meals will include 2 beers for each adult, with additional beers at $ 2.00 and wine for $ 3.00.

Volunteers are needed as follows:

  • 5 volunteers to set up the gym meeting room for NFL game streaming and chili tailgating

  • 3 volunteers needed to supplement tailgating food throughout games

  • 4 volunteers to do scoring for “Basketball Free Throw Contest” that begins after the scheduled basketball games

Based on the last 2 years of hosting this event, based on kids who show up, scoring takes about 45 – 60 minutes, and then sweeping down the gym floor after the contest to have gym ready for school classes on Monday.

Events in February & March

Valentine's Day is Friday, February 14th, and the Council will be hosting a “Marriage Blessing” ceremony after the 5 PM mass on Saturday February 15th. We will send out an RSVP to parishioners to see if there is any interest in and hosting some type of meal for those who wish to be a part of the “Marriage Blessing” celebration that will be performed after the 5 PM mass with their children witnessing the commitment parents are participating in. Once final plans are discussed, we can discuss volunteers needed.

Lenten Fish Fridays

Lent starts early this on Ash Wednesday February 26th and we will be finalizing with Fr. Grosch how many Friday Lenten Fish Dinners will be cooking and serving. As always, the parish will be hosting the dinners and the Council will be co-hosting.
