Mrs. Koberlein's Weekly Message-December 20, 2019

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, December 20, 2019

Dear HCA-OLP Families,

I know that many of you have questions or concerns regarding the upcoming structure change for Holy Cross Academy. Stay tuned for opportunities to become involved in the process as we move forward and iron out some of the details about the new model. If you have any ideas that you think may be helpful, or if you just have some questions or concerns, please reach out. You can send me an email, or I would be happy to meet with you to discuss your ideas or concerns.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if there is any way I may be of help!

I wish all of you a joyous Christmas season!

In God’s Peace,

Mrs. Katie Koberlein

Principal, Our Lady of Providence Campus

Kindergarten Exploration Night

Parents of future kindergartners are invited to come for an evening to learn more about our kindergarten program. The meeting will be Thursday, January 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the St. Michael the Archangel Campus.

Snow Pile Safety Note

During the snow event earlier this week, our plow driver noticed some children playing on the piled snow while he was plowing. I don’t know if these were HCA children, but I want to give parents an opportunity to talk to their children about the dangers of playing on/in these large snow piles.

End of Second Quarter

The second quarter will end on Friday, January 17. On Friday, January 10, the online gradebook will be closed for parent viewing to allow teachers to begin preparing report cards in our online system. Report cards will be available online on Friday, January 24 at 3:30 p.m.

After School Activities

Enrollment is open for two new activities organized by the after school program at HCA - chess and wilderness medicine. See the flyers on A2Z for more information.

Prevent and Protect

The Archdiocese of St. Louis has developed a new system for safe environment compliance called Prevent and Protect STL. All volunteers in the Archdiocese are required to register in the new system before December 31, 2020. This includes new volunteers and those who are currently in service. For those who have already attended a Protecting God’s Children workshop, your previous training date will transfer to this new system. In addition to attending a live Protecting God’s Children workshop, all clergy, volunteers, and employees will register for an updated background screening, view two new online training modules on abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct. Please go to www.preventandprotectstl.org to register. To help you through this process, here is a document with helpful Instructions for Registering as an HCA Volunteer.

St. Louis County Library Winter Reading Challenge

The public library is having a fun reading challenge this winter, from Dec. 1 to Jan. 31. You can get logs for all ages at your local branch of the library. These logs ask students to complete at least 5 of 20 activities like "read a funny book" or "visit the library." Upon completion, students who bring the log to any SLCL location will earn a sale table voucher for a free book and an entry into the winter reading prize raffle. For more information, or to sign up to track your activities online, go to https://www.slcl.org/winter-reading-challenge.
