Mrs. Koberlein's Weekly Message-December 6, 2019

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, December 06, 2019

Dear HCA-OLP Families,

I hope all of you are enjoying the beginning of the Advent season. This is a busy time of year with a lot that needs to get done, but I hope that you are able to take a break from the busyness to prepare your hearts for the coming of Jesus.

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if there is any way I may be of help! I hope you all have an enjoyable weekend!

In God’s Peace,

Mrs. Katie Koberlein

Principal, Our Lady of Providence Campus

Toy Drive

Thank you to all of the families who donated to our toy drive this year! We celebrated the end of the toy drive with a special mass on Wednesday, and it was amazing to see how many toys were collected at this campus alone! The toys are going to the Wellston Center for St. Augustine Parish, where families in need will be able to shop for toys for their children for about 10% of the real cost.

Prevent and Protect

The Archdiocese of St. Louis has developed a new system for safe environment compliance called Prevent and Protect STL. All volunteers in the Archdiocese are required to register in the new system before December 31, 2020. This includes new volunteers and those who are currently in service. For those who have already attended a Protecting God’s Children workshop, your previous training date will transfer to this new system. In addition to attending a live Protecting God’s Children workshop, all clergy, volunteers, and employees will register for an updated background screening, view two new online training modules on abuse reporting and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and agree to the updated Code of Ethical Conduct. Please go to www.preventandprotectstl.org to register. To help you through this process, here is a document with helpful Instructions for Registering as an HCA Volunteer.

January Lunch Orders

Orders can now be placed for January lunches. The window for ordering closes on Dec. 19 at midnight. Order now so you don’t forget!

St. Louis County Library Winter Reading Challenge

The public library is having a fun reading challenge this winter, from Dec. 1 to Jan. 31. You can get logs for all ages at your local branch of the library. These logs ask students to complete at least 5 of 20 activities like "read a funny book" or "visit the library." Upon completion, students who bring the log to any SLCL location will earn a sale table voucher for a free book and an entry into the winter reading prize raffle. For more information, or to sign up to track your activities online, go to https://www.slcl.org/winter-reading-challenge.

Dressing for our Advent Prayer Services

To celebrate Advent, we will have a Living Advent Wreath prayer service each Monday morning instead of our usual morning prayer. Students are asked to wear a green shirt with their uniform bottoms that day. 5th graders should wear a purple or pink shirt with their uniform bottoms.

Santa’s Workshop

Santa's Workshop, sponsored by the Holy Cross Academy Parents Association, is a fun way for our children to get into the spirit of giving. A "store" will be set up in the gym at both St. Michael's and Our Lady of Providence campuses on Monday, December 9. A variety of gifts appropriate for parents, grandparents, siblings, friends and even pets will be available for purchase.

We are still in need of volunteers to make this event a success. If you are able to spare some time to help, please click the link below to navigate to the volunteer sign up page. Be sure to scroll down through the page to see all of the available slots. This link is for both OLP and SMA volunteer sign up, so please make sure you are signing up for the campus, role, and time slot you wish to volunteer. Please be sure to enter your email address so that you will automatically receive a reminder a couple of days before you are scheduled to help.

Cold and Flu Season

Cold and flu season has arrived in the St. Louis area, and HCA-OLP is no exception. At school, we clean classroom surfaces regularly and remind the students to practice good hand washing and cover their coughs and sneezes. We also need parents’ help to reduce the spread of illness. It is important to keep your child home from school if there is a fever present or if your child shows other symptoms of illness. Students must have had no vomiting and be fever-free without the aid of fever-reducing medications for 24 hours before returning to school. Thanks for your help in keeping everyone as healthy as possible.
