Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, December 06, 2019

Holy Cross Academy - St. John Paul II

Bulletin for the Week of December 8, 2019

Thanks for making the Toy Drive a huge success. At JP2, we collected 150 toys, almost 300% of our goal which was 51 toys. As a result, we will have a "pajama day" and afternoon Christmas movie on Wednesday, December 18.

A special thank you goes to St. Nick (a.k.a. Dan McNamee) for visiting classes this past Thursday. He left candy canes for everyone. See photo below of St. Nick, Fr. Chris and the kindergartners.

At Mass this week, we will celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Special thanks go to Mrs. Denise Mills, Mrs. Simpson and the 5th graders who are planning the Mass. Please join us for Mass on Thursday morning, December 12, at 8:00 a.m.

Reminder: Santa's Workshop is scheduled for Monday, December 9. At Santa's Workshop the students purchase and wrap gifts for the important adults in their lives, typically parents and maybe grandparents. All the gifts are for adults, normally not brothers or sisters. Each item costs one dollar and students may not spend more than $4.00. Thanks to all of you for donating sale items and a special thanks to Mrs. Karen Stolarski and her crew for organizing and running the day. Please send some money for your child to shop, but no more than $4.00.

We will begin each week in Advent with a prayer service on Monday morning. As part of the prayer service, we will be making a living Advent wreath. Please have your child follow the dress code below and wear the colored shirt or t-shirt for their grade with their uniform bottoms.

K - 4th grade should wear green shirts or green t-shirts.

5th grade: Alaina, Anabelle, Isabella, Ellen and Sophie should wear pink. Kyle, Jasmine, Owen, Danovan, Sam, Colin, Nate, Ella, Josh, Ella, Emma, Ryan and Carter should wear purple.

Teachers will wear red shirts.

Looking ahead: please plan on joining us for the Christmas Concert on Thursday evening, December 19. The preschoolers will perform at 6:00 pm and K-5th students will perform at 6:30 pm. The concert will take place in the school chapel. You will receive a letter with some directions regarding the concert from Mr. Wamser in next Friday's folder.

3rd, 4th and 5th graders will have the opportunity for the Sacrament of Penance on Tuesday, December 10.

Note from Technology teacher, Mrs. Amy Puckett: This week, Holy Cross Academy K-5 students at Our Lady of Providence, St. John Paul II and St. Michael the Archangel campuses celebrated Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 9-15) by participating in The Hour of Code with over 800 million other students from over 180 countries around the world. The Hour Code, organized by code.org, is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. It is dedicated to expanding participation in computer science by making it available in more schools and increasing participation and interest in computer science. While we work with code.org throughout the school year, this week we took the time to celebrate coding
