Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, November 08, 2019

Holy Cross Academy - St. John Paul II

Bulletin for the Week of November 10, 2019

Thanks for being here for parent-teacher conferences. We especially appreciate that this may have required altering your work schedule or getting someone to watch your children during the conferences. It was very helpful and enjoyable for us to speak with each of you individually regarding the progress of your child.

Are you having a sugar overload at your house. If you have left over Halloween candy, please consider dropping it off at the JP2 office. HCA is collecting the candy and will distribute it to children in Haiti, the Ronald McDonald House and to local children who can't safely trick or treat in their neighborhoods.

It's almost time for the HCA-JP2 Fall Book Fair! We're hoping you're interested in helping again, or joining us for the first time. Help us add to our guided reading materials and much needed titles for our library and classrooms (preschool included). Please click on the Scholastic link to register for your preferred time: https://volunteer.scholastic.com/#/experience/signup/BBE1ummNM or contact Meghan Carr at meghanxcarr@gmail.com or 314-550-9406. The Book Fair will take place on November 18, 19 and 20, 3:30-5:30 pm.

Congratulations to JP2 parishioner and HCA Mom, Mrs. Karen Stolarski.! Karen is one of the Legacy Award recipients who will be recognized at the HCA Gala on Saturday evening, November 16. The awards recognize service to Holy Cross Academy and to our five sponsoring parishes. Karen, thanks for your generous service to JP2 and HCA! Other recipients are Greg Meyer (SMA), Paul and Eryn Krobath (OLP), Jamie and Lynn Mealey (ANN), and John (Buzz) and Genie Swanston (SHF).

Christmas Toy Drive: The HCA Student Council will once again sponsor a Toy Drive for disadvantaged children. The drive will run from Monday, November 18, through Tuesday, December 3. Toys should be new; no soccer balls. Gifts should not be wrapped. Our goal at HCA-JP2 is an average of one gift per student. As always, thanks in advance for your continued generosity.

This week's Mass, on Thursday morning, November 14, is being planned by Ms. McArthur and the second graders. Please feel free to join us for Mass. Mass begins at 8:00 am.

Thanks to all our parents who are veterans! We will remember you is a special way in our school prayer on Monday, November 11.

It’s almost that time of year again, and we need your help! On Monday, December 9, the children at Holy Cross Academy - St. John Paul II campus will have an opportunity to “shop” for Christmas gifts for a parent/guardian/adult at a cost of $1 per item. Each student may purchase up to four items. We are looking for donations of new or gently used items for the children to buy. Items that are usually popular are cups/mugs, candles, jewelry, scarves, gloves, note cards, picture frames, and anything Christmas themed. We are always a little short on items that would be appropriate for dads/men, so those are at the top of our list for donation requests this year. We also need gift bags, tissue paper, gift tags and tape for the children to wrap up their treasures. Please keep in mind that all items will be $1 per item, no matter the size, shape, or actual value. They will be in little hands for the entire day and will also need to make it home, so something that is very fragile may not be the best idea. Please send these items to school via your child any time between now and December 1. If it is easier for you, you can give your donations to me at pick up each day. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me at any time. Thank you in advance for making this day a great success and for helping the children experience a little bit Christmas magic.

Merry Christmas to all!

Karen Stolarski
