Dr. Densberger's Weekly Message-November 1, 2019

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, November 01, 2019

Holy Cross Academy - St. John Paul II

Bulletin for the Week of November 3, 2019

As of 3:30 pm on Friday, November 1, first quarter report cards are now available to parents on A2Z at A2Z Login .

Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, November 7, 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. Conferences are all scheduled online. To schedule conferences go to https://ptcfast.com/schools/Holy_Cross_Academy_1 or Schedule Parent-Teacher Conferences - Fall 2019 . Conference times are scheduled on a first come-first served basis. Conferences cannot be scheduled after Wednesday, November 6.

Reminder: Next week is a short week for students. Because of parent-teacher conferences, there is no school on Thursday and Friday. I hope you enjoy the long weekend!

A special word of thanks goes to the parents who supported our canned food drive by letting your children raid your pantries for canned goods or for purchasing canned goods for the drive. We brought in a record 1,098 cans. The winning class was the third grade with an average of 20.7 cans per student. In second place was the fifth grade with an average of 20.5 cans per student. Since the final numbers were so close, both the third and fifth grades will have pizza parties. Our stacked canned goods way more than covered up the portrait of St. John Paul II, so the entire school will have a dress down day to be announced later. Thanks goes to our two Student Council Reps, Carter Sullivan and Owen Carr, and to Mrs. Simpson for running the drive.

We would also like to thank the parents who ran activities at the class Halloween parties. Thanks to you the students had a great time celebrating Halloween. We are already looking forward to the Christmas parties in December.

Are you having a sugar overload at your house. If you have left over Halloween candy, please consider dropping it off at the JP2 office. HCA is collecting the candy and will distribute it to children in Haiti, the Ronald McDonald House and to local children who can't safely trick or treat in their neighborhoods.

On Saturday, November 16, we will celebrate the Holy Cross Academy Legacy Gala and Auction. Proceeds are used to invest in the future of Holy Cross Academy by enhancing the learning environment and giving our students the best resources available in the ever-changing world of modern education. We are asking our HCA community to come together in support of the 2019 Auction. There are so many ways in which you can help and all of us here at HCA have something special to give. We offer tax-deductible sponsorship opportunities and we are always looking for donated items for our Live and Silent Auctions. Please feel free to email legacygala@hca-stl.org or call Chasley Bradbury-Flores at 314.249.1307 with any questions.

It's almost time for the HCA-JP2 Fall Book Fair! We're hoping you're interested in helping again, or joining us for the first time. Help us add to our guided reading materials and much needed titles for our library and classrooms (preschool included). Please click on the Scholastic link to register for your preferred time: https://volunteer.scholastic.com/#/experience/signup/BBE1ummNM or contact Meghan Carr at meghanxcarr@gmail.com or 314-550-9406.

Reminder to second grade parents: The second meeting for the parents of second graders celebrating First Reconciliation will be held on Monday, November 4, at 6:30 pm in the JP2 cafeteria.

It’s nearly that time of year again, and we need your help! On Monday, December 9, the children at Holy Cross Academy - St. John Paul II campus will have an opportunity to “shop” for Christmas gifts for a parent/guardian/adult at a cost of $1 per item. Each student may purchase up to four items. We are looking for donations of new or gently used items for the children to buy. Items that are usually popular are cups/mugs, candles, jewelry, scarves, gloves, note cards, picture frames, and anything Christmas themed. We are always a little short on items that would be appropriate for dads/men, so those are at the top of our list for donation requests this year. We also need gift bags, tissue paper, gift tags and tape for the children to wrap up their treasures. Please keep in mind that all items will be $1 per item, no matter the size, shape, or actual value. They will be in little hands for the entire day and will also need to make it home, so something that is very fragile may not be the best idea. Please send these items to school via your child any time between now and December 1. If it is easier for you, you can give your donations to me at pick up each day. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me at any time. Thank you in advance for making this day a great success and for helping the children experience a little bit Christmas magic.

Merry Christmas to all!
