Dr. Densberger's Weekly Message-October 18, 2019

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, October 18, 2019

Holy Cross Academy - St. John Paul II

Bulletin for the Week of October 20, 2019

In order for grades and comments to be entered, the A2Zware Gradebook will be turned off for parent viewing until Friday, November 1, at 3:30 p.m. The report cards will go live on Friday, November 1, at 3:30 p.m.

Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, November 7, 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. Conferences are all scheduled online. To schedule conferences go to https://ptcfast.com/schools/Holy_Cross_Academy_1 or Schedule Parent-Teacher Conferences - Fall 2019 . Conference times are scheduled on a first come-first served basis. You can begin scheduling conferences at this time.

Standardized test scores (ITBS and CogAT) were sent home in the Friday folder this week. They are in a sealed envelope - one per family. Kindergartners did not take either test and first graders took only the CogAT. You will also find a letter from the Principals regarding standardized testing and a sheet explaining the test scores in your Friday folder. If you have questions regarding the scores, ask your child's teacher at the upcoming parent-teacher conferences or feel free to give me a call.

JP2 students will have the option for both vision and hearing testing by the Center for Hearing and Speech on Monday, October 21. A form regarding this testing was sent home in the Friday folder on September 27. For this screening, parents should sign the permission form and return it the JP2 office with a check for $7.00 made payable to Holy Cross Academy. This screening is optional. If you have misplaced the form for this screening, you can pick-up a new form in the office.

Second and fourth graders ONLY will have an additional vision screening on the following day, Tuesday, October 22. The vision screening will be done by Dr. Radakovic of Webster Eye Care. It involves 4 tests. In Dr. Radakovic's clinical experience, those four tests identify the most vision related learning disabilities: (1) visual acuity - a child's clarity of vision; (2) eye teaming skills - a child's ability to efficiently converge their eyes for reading and maintain that convergence; (3) depth perception - a child's ability to see life in 3 dimensions; (4) ocular motor skills - a child's ability to efficiently follow print across a page. You do not need a completed permission form or check for this screening. If you would prefer that your child not be tested, email Ms. Katie at kstein@hca-stl.org.

Mass this week will take place on Tuesday, October 22, at 2:00 pm. Mass will celebrate the Feast of St. John Paul II. It will be prepared by the fifth grade. You are welcome to join us on Tuesday, as we celebrate the feast of our patron saint. We will not have Mass on Thursday morning of this week.

Reminder regarding morning drop off: To avoid a child walking in front of a moving car, please follow these guidelines. When possible, please have your children exit the car on the driver's side. If it is necessary for a child to exit on the passenger side, please have him/her walk in front of your car.

There is no school on Friday, October 25. This is a teacher work day. Enjoy the three-day weekend!

This week's coffee with the principal is for the parents of second and third graders. It will take place on Wednesday morning, October 23, at 7:30 am in the teachers' lounge. Next week's coffee with the principal (4th and 5th) is scheduled for Tuesday morning, October 29.

The HCA Student Council is sponsoring a canned food drive again this year. The drive will began on Monday, October 14, and end by October 31. Our campus is collecting food for the JP2 St. Vincent de Paul Society. Our goal is to bring in enough canned goods that when stacked they will completely cover the picture of St. John Paul II in the lobby. Please send food donations to school with your son or daughter.

Don’t Forget the HCA Trunk or Treat is Saturday, October 26, from 6:00-8:00 pm on the JP2 parking lot. Register online at Trunk or Treat Reservation. Reservations by October 15 were $12.00; after October 15 the cost is $15.00.

On Saturday, November 16, we will celebrate the Holy Cross Academy Legacy Gala and Auction. Proceeds are used to invest in the future of Holy Cross Academy by enhancing the learning environment and giving our students the best resources available in the ever-changing world of modern education. We are asking our HCA community to come together in support of the 2019 Auction. There are so many ways in which you can help and all of us here at HCA have something special to give. We offer tax-deductible sponsorship opportunities and we are always looking for donated items for our Live and Silent Auctions. Please feel free to email legacygala@hca-stl.org or call Chasley Bradbury-Flores at 314.249.1307 with any questions.

Uniform reminder: Friday November 1, is the first day for winter uniform rules. Beginning November 1, shorts cannot be worn until after spring break.

The Fall Scholastic Book Fair is quickly approaching. We will be open for book sales on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, November 18-20, from 3:30-5:30. More details regarding the book fair will be forthcoming. Thanks goes to Megan Carr who is the Chairperson for this event. If you are able to assist with the fair, please contact Megan directly or leave your name with Ms. Katie in the campus office.
