Mrs. Folk's Weekly Message-October 11, 2019

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, October 11, 2019

Dear Holy Cross Academy Families,

We have had an exciting week at the SMA campus.

On Monday, the 4th grade class visited the Litzsinger Ecology Center. They explored their trails and discovered different plants, flowers, and insects that were native to Missouri. They also explored animal skulls of carnivores, omnivores, and herbivores. Finally, they had the opportunity to create “eco art” out of materials found outside that were abiotic and biotic.

On Wednesday, the 1st Grade had a field trip to Sheldon Music Hall to learn about how different types of vibrations and frequency make sounds. The students loved their experiences, especially the bus ride.

The Preschool and Kindergarten had a special day with their moms/special friends on Wednesday too . They enjoyed breakfast, made jewelry, colored pictures, and attended balance class. Everyone had a great time.

The students had library on Thursday with the help of our mom volunteers. They read a story, helped with finding and checking out books, and just gave the children quiet time to look through our campus library and their new finds. Everyone is really excited for this opportunity. A special thank you to our volunteers.

The STUCO canned food drive starts on Monday, October 14th. See below for a list of items the food pantry needs.

I hope to see the Kindergarten and 1st Grade parents next Tuesday at 7:45am in the Teacher’s Lounge for Coffee with the Principal.

Enjoy your weekend!!!

GO CARDS!!!!

I feel blessed to be part of this community.

God Bless!

Uniform Reminders

Our uniform is a visual reminder for our students of our Catholic identity in our school. It is important that our uniform rules are followed respectfully. For the most part, this is going smoothly, but I would like to ask you to pay attention to a few details.

  • Now that it is getting cooler, make sure your student has a uniform sweatshirt to wear to school. The options available are the HCA logo sweatshirts or fleece or a navy cardigan sweater. Non-uniform sweatshirts may be worn for recess.

  • Socks should be white, navy, or black only. Logos on socks are acceptable, but prominent stripes and socks of other colors are not allowed.

  • The only jewelry permitted are religious medals, watches/fitbits, and post earrings which do not fall below the earlobe.

Hearing and Vision permission forms were sent home last Friday. The screenings will be Friday, October 18th. Please return the signed permission slip form with $7 to the school office if you would like your child to participate.

Trunk or Treat

Don’t Forget the HCA Trunk or Treat is October 26th from 6:00-8:00 pm on the JP2 parking lot. Please join my family at the event. We are running a mini carnival.

GYM UNIFORMS

Students of all elementary grades will not need to bring a regular uniform to change into on gym days. They will now be allowed to wear their gym uniforms all day long on PE days. This will help with more productive use of their time during the school day. The students are to wear plain navy blue longer shorts or HCA gym shorts and their gym shirt. Here are some places/websites you can pick up shorts and sweatpants for the upcoming winter uniform which is less than a month away.

HCA GALA

On Saturday, November 16, 2019, we will celebrate the Holy Cross Academy Legacy Gala and Auction. Proceeds are used to invest in the future of Holy Cross Academy by enhancing the learning environment and giving our students the best resources available in the ever-changing world of modern education. We are asking our HCA community to come together in support of the 2019 Auction. There are so many ways in which you can help and all of us here at HCA have something special to give. We offer tax-deductible sponsorship opportunities and we are always looking for donated items for our Live and Silent Auctions.
