Mrs. Folk's Weekly Message-September 13, 2019

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, September 13, 2019

Dear Holy Cross Academy Families,

We have had an amazing week at the SMA campus!!! We have completed our initial safety drills, first week of the NCADA program, met our new seminarian, Matthew Glazier, who will be working with our campus this year, Schreckenberg Principals, and finished this week with a wonderful Holy Cross Academy Mass and retreat. I wanted to thank the spiritual committee and Katie Koberlein, principal at the OLP campus, for a great day at SHF.

I want to thank all of the parents who have offered to volunteer for the library this school year. I would like to have a meeting for all volunteers on Thursday, September 26th, at 2:00pm in the teachers lounge. Please let me know if you are not able to make it to the meeting and still interested in volunteering in the library. I would be happy to set up a second meeting.

We practiced our first reverse intruder, tornado, and fire drill of the year on Monday and earthquake drill on Wednesday. Everyone did a great job.

The Schreckenberg boys have decided while they were Co-Principals for the day on Thursday to have a Campus Dress Down Day on Monday, September 16th. Everyone at the SMA campus can dress down!!! Each class will also enjoy an extra recess. We are really excited!!! I want to thank Caleb and Ben for the great job of leading our school. I know I had fun sharing the day with them.

Standardized Testing begins next week on Monday for grades 1-5. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest, good breakfast, and a snack for the entire week. Your child will not have homework during testing week.

Don’t forget to forward the BLUE & GOLD Raffle to your family and friends using email, facebook, and twitter. The raffle sales are off to a great start, especially at our campus!!!

I feel blessed to be part of this community.

God Bless!

Mrs. Karen Folk

The Safe Touch program will be instructed during September 25-27 to all students in K-5. Opt out forms were sent home last week. I am sorry for any confusion about the forms. You only need to send the forms back if you do not want your child to participate. I will need the forms returned by Wednesday, September 18th, so I can prepare the materials needed for the classes.

Safe touch is an Archdiocesan developed school-based curriculum for grades K-5. This program contains practical, helpful information to help children protect themselves from dangers that exist today. The objective of this curriculum is to teach our children self-protection skills. The Safe Touch curriculum approaches safety issues in a respectful manner, connecting our Catholic values with information to keep our children safe. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns regarding this important piece of your child’s education.

October Lunch Ordering Open

October lunch pre orders are available online. The last day to order October lunches is Sept. 20 at midnight. Order now so you don’t forget! Also, a reminder that milk is included with an entree.

Throughout the school year, parents are invited to a “Coffee with the Principal.” This is a time for parents to come enjoy coffee and bagels and to talk about any questions, concerns, or just to check in. Parents may attend the Coffee with the Principal when their child’s grade is assigned. The first Coffee with the Principal is Tuesday, October 15, with Kindergarten and 1st Grade parents in the Teacher’s Lounge at 7:45 am. I hope you can join us.

The Blue and Gold rush has begun. Forward the email with your family code to as many friends, family members, coworkers (etc.) who would like to win one of our 10 cash prizes! Don't forget about all of the wonderful prizes you as a family are eligible to win! There are also prizes for the class who sells the most tickets.

At the SMA campus, the top selling class will have a pizza party with the Principal and extra recess. I will also have other incentives for the top seller and if the campus meets goal a special surprise. So let us all work together to meet our goal and support HCA!!!

As usual we appreciate all of the support from our school and parish families.

On Saturday, November 16, 2019, we will celebrate the Holy Cross Academy Legacy Gala and Auction. Proceeds are used to invest in the future of Holy Cross Academy by enhancing the learning environment and giving our students the best resources available in the ever-changing world of modern education. We are asking our HCA community to come together in support of the 2019 Auction. There are so many ways in which you can help and all of us here at HCA have something special to give. We offer tax-deductible sponsorship opportunities and we are always looking for donated items for our Live and Silent Auctions. Please feel free to email legacygala@hca-stl.org or call Chasley Bradbury-Flores at 314.249.1307 with any questions.
