Mrs. Folk's Weekly Message-September 6, 2019

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, September 06, 2019

Dear Holy Cross Academy Families,

Can you believe we are going on our fourth week of school? Next week we will be celebrating the Feast of the Holy Cross on Friday, September 13th. Parents are welcome to come and celebrate Mass with the entire Holy Cross Community K-8 at 9:00am at Seven Holy Founders parish. There is a noon dismissal for K-8 from SHF. Preschool students will be dropped off and picked up at their home campus.

As discussed during the Back to School Night, SMA campus is in need of volunteers to help in the library this school year to check out books. The students will be able to use the library on Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday. I will make a list of volunteers so a rotation schedule can be made. To be a volunteer on campus, you will have to have taken the program Protecting God’s Children. Please let me know if you would be willing to help with the cleanup process and/or working with SMA children with reading stories and checking out books. Just send me an email (kfolk@hca-stl.org) if you are interested. Thanks in advance for your help.

We practiced our first intruder drill of the year on Thursday. Everyone did an amazing job. We will be practicing more drills next week. I will be sending information next week on safety procedures to all of the parents for SMA campus.

Students in grades K-5 brought home information about the Safe Touch Program in their Friday folders that will be presented in the classrooms during the week of September 23rd.

At the SMA campus, we will continue the Marker recycling project this year. If you have any old or dried up markers, please send with your child to the office and we will take care of shipping back to the program. Here a link to read more about the program.. https://www.crayola.com/colorcycle.aspx

Next Wednesday, the HCPA (Holy Cross Parent Association) will meet at JP2 at 6:30 pm in the Cafeteria. All are welcome!!! For coming to the meeting, each student will receive a DOT card for a dress down day on Thursday. Come and hear about all of the great activities that are planned for this school year thru HCPA.

Next Thursday, the Schreckenberg boys will be Co-Principals for the day. Let us welcome them in their new position!!!

Standardized Testing will begin the week of September 16-20th for grades 1-5. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest, good breakfast, and a snack for the entire week.

Please keep the Lauter Family in your prayers at the loss of Marci Lauter, grandmother of Matthew and Andrew Lauter and previous nurse for the SMA campus.

Don’t forget to forward the BLUE & GOLD Raffle to your family and friends using email, facebook, and twitter. The raffle sales are off to a great start, especially at our campus!!!

I also want to thank the Knights of Columbus for their donation and presentation of Bibles to the 4th Grade and new 5th Grade students during our Friday Mass. We really appreciate the support you all give to our Academy.

I feel blessed to be part of this community.

God Bless!

Mrs. Karen Folk

Throughout the school year, parents are invited to a “Coffee with the Principal.” This is a time for parents to come enjoy coffee and bagels and to talk about any questions, concerns, or just to check in. Parents may attend the Coffee with the Principal when their child’s grade is assigned. The first Coffee with the Principal is Tuesday, October 15, with Kindergarten and 1st Grade parents in the Teacher’s Lounge at 7:45 am

On Friday, September 13th, K-8 students will participate in the All Academy Mass and retreat day in celebration of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. All K-8 students will be dropped off and picked up from the Seven Holy Founders campus. Students should wear their white HCA logo polos. Books bags are not needed for the day.

K-8 Students who are attending After School Care will be collected by the After School personnel. Aftercare is available until 6:00 p.m. at the SHF campus. Students will need to be pre- registered for ASP on September 13th. Registration is online. If you did not receive a registration email, please contact Jessica Banks at Jbanks@hca-stl.org

Drop off at the SHF campus will be between 7:00 - 7:50. At pick up, parents will need to come into Parish Hall and sign out their child from their homeroom teacher. Due to the large number of students, you can pick up your student anytime between 11:45 and 12:00. A map detailing drop off and pick up procedures is also attached below.

Preschool students will stay on their home campus. If you have a preschool and K-8 student, we recommend picking up your preschool student first and then head to SHF to pick up your older students. Preschool students may be picked up starting at 11:30 this day.

The Blue and Gold rush has begun. Forward the email with your family code to as many friends, family members, coworkers (etc.) who would like to win one of our 10 cash prizes! Don't forget about all of the wonderful prizes you as a family are eligible to win! There are also prizes for the class who sells the most tickets.

Grand Prize is $2,500

2nd Prize is $1,000

3rd Prize is $500

2 Prizes of $250 each

5 Prizes of $100 each

As usual we appreciate all of the support from our school and parish families.

On Saturday, November 16, 2019, we will celebrate the Holy Cross Academy Legacy Gala and Auction. Proceeds are used to invest in the future of Holy Cross Academy by enhancing the learning environment and giving our students the best resources available in the ever-changing world of modern education. We are asking our HCA community to come together in support of the 2019 Auction. There are so many ways in which you can help and all of us here at HCA have something special to give. We offer tax-deductible sponsorship opportunities and we are always looking for donated items for our Live and Silent Auctions. Please feel free to email legacygala@hca-stl.org or call Chasley Bradbury-Flores at 314.249.1307 with any questions.
