Ms. Abkemeier's Weekly Message-April 5, 2019

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, April 05, 2019

Dear Holy Cross Academy Parents,

The third quarter REPORT CARDS will be available to be viewed at 3:30 p.m. today through the A2Zware site. After you login, you may click on the REPORTS tab. You will see two report card options (a report card overview and a detailed report card). The report card overview will show you the strands in each subject that were assessed in the first quarter and will give you an overall view of how your child has progressed. The detailed report card will show you all the standards in each subject that have been and will be assessed through the entire year. If a line is blank, then the standard has not been covered during this quarter. This report will give you a very detailed view of how your child is progressing in all areas. The overview report is included in the beginning of the detailed report, so it is important to scroll down to view the entire document. Either of these reports can be saved to your computer by right-clicking the screen.

A grade of MASTERY means The student CONSISTENTLY demonstrates an understanding of the learning goal and applies the information, concepts, and skills at an independent level. ACHIEVING means the student USUALLY demonstrates understanding of the learning goal and applies the information, concepts, and skills at an independent level. DEVELOPING means the student SOMETIMES demonstrates an understanding of the learning goal by applying the necessary information, concepts, and skills. INSUFFICIENT PROGRESS means the student INFREQUENTLY demonstrates understanding of the learning goal by applying the necessary information, concepts, and skills. The student needs reteaching and extra support in order to meet the learning goal. INCOMPLETE: The student has not completed enough body of work to issue a grade.

The main priority of K-5 education is to provide a solid foundation in basic academic skills. Students will learn to build upon and broaden these skills in middle school. A mark of ACHIEVING is an indication that your child is on the right track for his/her grade level. Your child’s teacher (at conference time) will discuss an instructional plan to boost your child to the Achieving or Mastery levels for their current grade level skills or to continue to challenge them in skills they have mastered. I would encourage you to discuss the report card with your child, emphasizing the positive aspects of their performance and setting goals for fourth quarter.

OPTIONAL PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES - APRIL 9TH

K-5 OPTIONAL PARENT TEACHER Spring conferences will be held on Tuesday, April 9th from 3:30 - 7:00 PM. Unlike the fall conferences, this is not a time for a routine check-in with your child’s Teacher. Please do not feel obligated to ask for a meeting if things are going well. However this is a great time to meet with Teachers to discuss any concerns you may have. Conferences are by appointment only, so please contact your child’s Teacher to set up a time.

Save the Date: JPII Picnic - May 24th-May 25th

We can’t do this without volunteers! This is the one fundraiser that our children get to enjoy. You will be hearing from your room parent soon asking for you to sign up or you can reach out to Kati Johnson at 314-650-4037 or email at katicastello@yahoo.com.

K-5 GRANDPARENTS DAY - APRIL 25TH

The JP2 campus will be having GRANDPARENT/SPECIAL FRIEND DAY for our Kindergarten-Fifth Grade students on Thursday, April 25, 2019 from 8:00 a.m.-10:15 a.m. We will begin the day with Mass at 8 AM in St. John Paul II school chapel. Grandparents/Special Friends are invited to meet their grandchild/ren in Church. Grandparents/special friends can go directly to church and sit in pews. The students will then meet you at church.

All children in the family will sit together at Mass in the classroom area of the youngest child in the family (for example: grandparent with children in 5th, 4th, and 1st grade will sit with the entire family in the 1st grade area). After Mass you are invited to visit your grandchild/ren’s classroom and enjoy a donut/juice in the cafeteria.
