Mrs. Folk's Weekly Message-March 29, 2019

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, March 29, 2019

Dear Holy Cross Academy Families,

I hope everyone had a great spring break. I loved hearing about what the children did over spring break. Some traveled, some did fun things around town, and some just relaxed at home. Everyone seemed to enjoy their time off and ready to come back to school.

We have had an exciting week. On Monday, the fourth and fifth grade joined the middle school for the Feast of the Annunciation. The middle school students, faculty, and staff were wonderful hosts and celebrated an amazing Mass. After Mass our students practiced for their spring concert which they performed Thursday night. They did a wonderful job singing and playing their musical instruments. Thanks to Ms. Mahfood and Mrs. Scheipeter for helping with organizing their students for the performance. A special thanks to Mrs. Krobath and Ms. Ogunmola for their hard work, time and talent in presenting such an amazing music program for all of us to enjoy. Great Job 4th & 5th Grade!!!

On Monday the third grade also led us in the Stations of the Cross at 2:15pm. Third grade did such a wonderful job presenting. K-5th grade student are attending the stations each Monday during Lent at 2:15 pm. We would love you to join us on April 1st & 8th. On April 16th, the 5th Grade will perform the Mime Stations of the Cross after the 8:00 am Mass.

The first grade students shared their timeline presentations with their class, parents and special visitors. The students created a timeline using drawings or pictures of the person’s life. They were able to choose any person they wanted so there was a great variety of people we learned about: grandparents, parents, cousins, siblings, etc. I was really impressed when the students were able to answer questions about their own timeline. Great job 1st Grade and Ms. O’brecht!!!

Kindergarten enjoyed a fun art project where they drew/colored the events that happened during Holy Week and then glued the events into the shape of a cross. You should see the masterpieces! They also wrote stories using inventive spelling.

Second grade shared Lenten reflections while Preschool welcomed in Spring and participated in push n pull experiments with Miss Diana in Science.

Today the fourth grade attended reconciliation with Father. This is always a great time to pause, stop and reflect on how we are doing during Lent.

This week at the SMA campus the SVDP truck will be on the parking lot Saturday & Sunday if you have any donations. Spring cleaning always makes us purge.

I hope everyone has a good weekend. I can’t believe we are heading into April.

God Bless,

Mrs. Karen Folk

Principal, St. Michael the Archangel Campus

Important Reminders:

End of Third Quarter

Today is the end of third quarter. Report cards will be available online on Friday, April 5th at 3:30pm.

Spring Conferences

Spring conferences will be coming up soon after spring break, after school on Tuesday, April 9. Unlike the fall conferences, this is not a time for a routine check-in with your child’s teacher. Please do not feel obligated to ask for a meeting if things are going well. However this is a great time to meet with the teacher to discuss any concerns you may have. If you would like a spring conference, please contact your child’s teacher to set up a time. Some teachers may request a conference with the parent so if your child’s teacher requests a conference please coordinate with the teacher.

Change for Change Collection

During Lent, STUCO is sponsoring a Change for Change campaign. Students are encouraged to collect change throughout the Lenten season. As in the past money collected will be donated to the children of Melissa's Hope Orphanage in Haiti and also help support the missionary work of the Sisters of Notre Dame. Brown paper bags to collect the donated change came home with your child last week. Please return them to the school office by April 12. For more information on Melissa's Hope, please go to melissashope.org There are pictures and videos of the children and families in Haiti supported by the orphanage.
