Mrs. Koberlein's Weekly Message-February 8, 2019

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, February 08, 2019

Dear Holy Cross Families,

I hope this letter finds you well. Please read the updates below about some exciting things that are going on at Holy Cross Academy, Our Lady of Providence Campus. Thank you for entrusting your children to us. It is such a pleasure to see them each day and to be a part of their growth and education. Remember that it is registration time. If you have not turned in your form and fee, please get that turned in before February 15 to secure your student’s place for next year. That is when registration opens for non-parishioners.

As always, please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

In God’s Peace,

Mrs. Katie Koberlein

Principal, Our Lady of Providence Campus

Cold and Flu Season

We have been lucky not to have many kids out sick here at the OLP campus, but we do know that the cold and flu are both going around. We are doing as much as possible within the schools to safeguard our classrooms by wiping down desks, tables, doorknobs, etc. and encouraging hand washing. We are also asking for your help to prevent the spread of illness. If your child shows any symptoms of upper respiratory illnesses (ie. runny nose, cough, sneezing, and especially fever), they need to be kept at home until fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medications. Thank you as always for your support. Let’s continue working together to keep Holy Cross Academy schools safe and healthy!

Today and Tomorrow Scholarships

All families are invited to apply online for scholarships from the Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation. There are scholarships available for low and middle income families. The application period began January 28 at 8:00am, and some scholarships are first come, first served, so if you have not already done so, please apply right away! Go to ttef-stl.org to apply. Families who have applied in previous years should reuse the same login information. The deadline for families renewing a scholarship is February 28. More information is available at http://www.ttef-stl.org/info-for-parents/. Please let us know if you need help navigating the website and getting the application filled out. We would be happy to help!

Registration is now open for parishioners and current K-8 families. If you plan to return for the 2019-2020 school year and you haven’t registered yet, please do so this week. On Friday, February 15, registration will be open to new families and non-parishioners.

Friday’s All-Academy Mass

On Friday, February 15 we will have an All-Academy Mass in honor of the feast of Seven Holy Founders. K-5 parents, please remember to drop off your children at SHF in the morning. This day is a full school day. Students will ride buses back to home campuses by lunch time, and they will be picked up from home campuses at the regular time in the afternoon.

Catholic Schools Week Service Collection

Last week, students at all HCA campuses reflected on the blessings they have and the needs of others and brought in small donations each day. Each campus collection is going to a charity to help those in need. At OLP, we collected $265 to give to Sts. Peter and Paul food pantry and shelter. Thanks to everyone for your generosity, and we hope that this was a meaningful activity for your family!

NCADA Lessons

Today was our first visit from Beth Riegert, a prevention educator from the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse - St. Louis area (NCADA). This wonderful program is available to our school at no cost, thanks to the Children’s Services Fund. Over the next few weeks, she will do four lessons with each K-5 class at OLP. In the lower grades, they discuss friendship and feelings, and grades four and five cover topics such as respect, tolerance, empathy, and responsibility/accountability. Please contact me if you would like more information about this program.

Kids Heart Challenge

Holy Cross Academy is participating in the Kids Heart Challenge, an activity and fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Students in kindergarten to grade eight will participate in heart-healthy activities at school on Friday, February 15. Click Here for More Information

Middle School Shadow Day

This past Tuesday, our fifth graders spent a day over at the middle school campus to get an idea of what middle school is like. Thank you, parents, for remembering to drop off and pick up at a different place for that day. It was a great experience for the students!

March Lunch Orders

March lunch orders may be placed now until February 22. Order now so you don’t forget! Also, remember that a milk is included with a lunch order, so you do not need to order milk separately on days when the student is buying lunch.
