Mrs. Folks Weekly Message-February 8,2019

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, February 08, 2019

Dear Holy Cross Academy Families,

During Catholic Schools Week we wanted your children to understand and be grateful for the blessings we all have in our lives. So as a special project, the students donated money to St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Michael’s by donating change to represent daily blessings we sometimes that for granted...food to eat, clean clothes, warm bed to sleep in, entertainment. St. Michael’s campus raised $221. Thanks to all the parents helping with our efforts for our students to learn the importance of feeling blessed.

Thank you for the wonderful lunch that HCPA provided for Teacher Appreciation Day. All of the staff were treated and enjoyed an amazing salad, Imos Pizza, soda and variety of desserts and candy. Again, thank you so much for thinking of us and making Teacher Appreciation so wonderful. We are lucky to be surrounded by such great families.

Today we celebrated Grandparents/Special Friends Day with our preschool teachers and students. Grandparents/Special friends joined us at Mass then enjoyed some refreshments and activities in the gym. It is always so fun to see how excited the kids get to spend this time with these special people. Thank you to those grandparents and special friends who were able to join us.

God Bless,

Mrs. Karen Folk

Principal, St. Michael the Archangel Campus

Important Reminders:

Increase in Students being Sick

We have seen an increase in students being ill or sent to school when they are not feeling well. If your child is not feeling well, please side on not sending them to school because flu, strep throat and viruses are going around HCA.

Here is the policy for sending children to school:

If a child has been ill with a fever, he/she should not attend school until he/she has been fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medicine. Fever is defined as a temperature of over 100.4 Fahrenheit. Preschool families should see additional health guidelines in preschool packet.

ALSO:

I realize mornings are busy, especially when your child is not feeling well, but please do not forget to call the office in the morning before 8:00 am if your child is not going to be at school that day. Also, if your child is not going to be at school because of other reasons, please let the office know as soon as possible as well.

Today and Tomorrow Scholarships

Parents, all families are invited to apply online for scholarships from the Today and Tomorrow Educational Foundation. There are scholarships available for low and middle income families. The application period will begin January 28 at 8:00am, and some scholarships are first come, first served, so please apply right away! Go to ttef-stl.org to apply. Families who have already applied previously should reuse the same login information. The deadline for families renewing a scholarship is February 28. More information is available at http://www.ttef-stl.org/info-for-parents/.

IMPORTANT REMINDER FROM ARCHDIOCESE:

Please note that the deadline for Beyond Sunday, SOAR!, Catholic Families Tuition Assistance (CFTA), and the Parish Employees Endowment Fund (PEEF) is February 28th, 2019!

Any family who would like to be considered for these programs, even if they are applying for requalification for one of these scholarships, must apply by this deadline. Please note that the income a family has listed on the application must be supported by all required documentation and confirmed by the TTEF scholarship office as eligible in order for an application to be considered complete. Also, it is important to remember that Alive! In Christ scholarship is first-come, first-served, so we are encouraging all families to apply as early as possible.

Students already receiving Alive! In Christ (AIC) or Help for Today, Hope for Tomorrow (HTHT), are still eligible for requalification if the complete, eligible application is submitted after February 28th. However, the family will not be considered for any of the scholarships listed above and funding for siblings in AIC and HTHT may be exhausted after the deadline. The deadline for all requalification applications for AIC and HTHT is May 1st, 2019.

The Archdiocese is also offering Parent Support Sessions from 3:30-6:30 pm:

Valentine & Mardi Gras Party Information

The HCPA has decided to cancel the Valentine's party on February 14th. The students (Preschool-5th grade) will have a valentine exchange in their classroom with their teachers and classmates. The HCPA will sponsor a Mardi Gras party on March 1st at 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm. The Middle School will have a separate event on March 3rd. Valentine’s Day is also a dress down day.

Reminder: Inclement Weather Procedures

If weather conditions indicate opening school at the regular time would be hazardous, but does not warrant the school being closed the entire day, a “Snow Schedule” will be announced. When the “Snow Schedule” is in effect, classes will begin at 9:30am for all campuses. Doors open at 9:00am. There will be no supervision of students available before 9:00 am. Consideration for those carpooling to multiple campuses will be taken into account. An email, text, and phone blast will be sent out to indicate cancellations or snow schedule.

Information pertaining to cancellations or “Snow Schedule” will be listed on the Storm watch on KSDK-TV (Channel 5). Look for HOLY CROSS ACADEMY - ST. LOUIS

Ultimately, we rely on our parents to make the decisions that are best for their children and families. We trust our parents to evaluate the conditions of their streets and make decisions accordingly.
