Mrs. Dolan's Weekly Message-January 11, 2019

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, January 11, 2019

Dear Holy Cross Academy Families, January 11, 2019

Tuesday during Mass, Fr. Mike’s homily was about students recognizing and caring for others. He told them to open their eyes and see if there are people around them in need. When a friend is hurting; he encouraged them to write a note, call and ask how they are. He also shared an example of a bigger problem such as the homeless. Although the students cannot fix homelessness, they can bring in coats, socks, and have Penny Wars to help. God is love! The good feeling you get when you are helping others is a feeling of God. If the students are not experiencing this good feeling perhaps they are thinking too much about themselves. Middle school can be a difficult time for adolescents. Together we can work to help each other and know that our friends will help us in return.

HCA Geography Bee Champion: Today as the culmination of the National Geographic Bee elective, fourteen students participated in Holy Cross Middle School Geography Bee. The first place winner was Miles Rittenhouse with Madhavan Anbukumar and Luke Salmo tied for second place. The winners of the local school Bees take a test to qualify for the state Bee later this month. Thank you to Mr. Ewing and congratulations to the students for saying “Yes” to the Geography Bee elective.

The Pickle Ball tournament schedule for today was

postponed until next Tuesday

End of Quarter: Friday, January 18th is the end of the second quarter. Today, the parent view of the A2Z grade book has been turned off in order for teachers to work on student report cards.

February Lunch Orders: Online ordering for February lunches is now open. Orders must be placed by January 25. Order now so you don’t forget! Also, remember that milk is included with a lunch order, so you do not have to order milk separately on days when the student is buying lunch.

Coat Drive: Did you get a new coat for Christmas? This year the St. Vincent de Paul Mini-Vinnies have decided to conduct a New or Used Winter Coat Drive for their 2019 HCA SvDP Service Project. The new or used coat drive will be conducted from Monday, January 7, 2019 until Friday, January 18, 2019. Please help keep others warm this winter!

ACRE Test: Today the eighth grade students took the ACRE test. The Assessment of Catholic Religious Education (ACRE) test measures knowledge of the faith as well as beliefs, behaviors, attitudes and practices of the faith. ACRE carries the endorsement of the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA) and is based upon the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The diocese measures religious knowledge through use of the Assessment of Catholic Religious Education (ACRE) in grades 5, 8 and 11. In speaking with the students, Ms. Kern said they felt very prepared.

We want to hear about high school, intended colleges, and any activities, sports, or special events they have been involved with now or planning to be in the future. Groups of graduates are welcome to send something in together.
