Ms. Abkemeier's Weekly Message-January 11, 2019

Submitted to All Campuses on Friday, January 11, 2019

Dear Holy Cross Academy Parents,

Friday, January 18th is the end of the second quarter. Today, the parent view of the A2Z gradebook has been turned off in order for teachers to work on student report cards. As a reminder, at Holy Cross Academy students are assessed using the reporting system known as Curriculum Based Grading. You may have heard this method described as “Standards Based Grading,” however, since the curriculum at Holy Cross Academy drives our instruction to students, we refer to this grading and reporting method as Curriculum Based Grading (CBG). This method requires teachers to base grades on specific criteria derived from common learning standards. You may wish to review the HCA Parents’ Guide to Curriculum Based Grading which can be found on the HCA website under the PARENTS tab, before report cards are available online Friday, January 25th at 3:30 PM. As always, please talk with me or your child’s teacher if you have any questions.

REMINDER: Friday, January 18, Holy Cross Academy will dismiss at 11:40 (ANN) / 12:00 (OLP, JP2, SMA). After School Programming will be available to all preschool-5th grade students until 6:00 pm, and 6th-8th grade students until 5:00 pm at HOME CAMPUSES. Students will eat lunch, enjoy a snack, and watch a movie. To ensure adequate staffing levels, students MUST BE pre-registered for ASP that day. Click here to print form.

    REMINDER: INCLEMENT WEATHER PROCEDURES

As the weather continues to get colder, please review the following procedures for inclement weather. If weather conditions indicate opening school at the regular time would be hazardous, but does not warrant the school being closed the entire day, a “Snow Schedule” will be announced. When the “Snow Schedule” is in effect, classes will begin at 9:30am for all campuses. Doors open at 9:00 a.m. There will be no supervision of students available before 9:00a.m. Consideration for those carpooling to multiple campuses will be taken into account. An email, text, and phone blast will be sent out to indicate cancellations or snow schedule.

Information pertaining to cancellations or “Snow Schedule” will be listed on the Storm watch on KMOV-TV (Channel 4). Information also will be posted on kmov.com. Look for HOLY CROSS ACADEMY - ST. LOUIS

Ultimately, we rely on our parents to make the decisions that are best for their children and families. We trust our parents to evaluate the conditions of their streets and make decisions accordingly.
