The Long Cool Vest™ is especially suited for women who want to prevent and treat osteopenia and osteoporosis.
Weight-bearing exercises are ideal for improving balance, building bone strength and protecting against osteopenia and osteoporosis. For women, in addition to doing weight-bearing exercises, Dr. Fuhrman recommends wearing a weighted vest for a few hours each day for stronger bones, as well as for overall conditioning. A weighted vest can be worn, not only during exercise, but also while you work or shop and bend, stand, and move throughout the day.
The Cool Vest™ is the best-fitting, thinnest, and most comfortable weighted vest available and is offered in two sizes: The Short Cool Vest™ (1 to 9 lb. capacity) and the Long Cool Vest™ (1 to 15 lb. capacity). Both styles use a proprietary, oversized stretch strapping system to hold the vest securely to almost any size torso. It also utilizes a patented double-lock system to keep the vest completely stable. The design allows the vest to expand to accommodate your breathing, even during rigorous exercise. The weight capacity of each vest can be doubled — the Short Cool vest™ to 18 lbs., and the Long Cool Vest™ to 30 lbs. — by adding an additional Flex-metal™ weight to each pocket. (Additional weights sold separately.)
Note: Because the long vest holds more weight, it is better suited for athletic training and for men and women of larger stature or who have a longer torso.
The patented Cool Vest™ uses a pocket system that distributes the soft Flex-metal™ weights uniformly over the chest and allows the soft weights to bend and flex with your movements. The product also includes a wide array of high performance features unmatched by any other weighted vest.
Dr. Fuhrman recommends that you begin with 6 lbs. of weight, wearing the Long Cool Vest™ for 1 hour per day, 5 days per week. You can gradually build up to 15 lbs. of weight and wear the vest for about 15 hours per week.
The Cool Vest™ is designed to be extremely comfortable for walking and conditioning exercise, fits smoothly and is virtually unnoticeable when worn beneath outerwear.
Research documents the benefits of wearing and exercising using a weighted vest. Women who wore and exercised with the vest were compared to control groups that did not and the difference in bone mass and other indices of hip fracture risk were dramatic.1
